The proogram you need probebly depends on a few things: the type of music your making, the number of insturments or other sfx to be used in the song(s), and the type of audio quality your going for. You should be more specific so people know exactely what type of music it is your trying to make. My band is a classic rock type band and we used three programs usually. We use cakewalk Guitar tracks, protracks plus 2.2 ( also made by cake walk), and acid music studios. You should check those out! For what else you would need, that again depends on what type of music your making. If you specify a little more i might be able to help you a little more.
