As of the end of this month, Newgrounds is being released from its contract with Troma. This means that we will now be in charge of our hosting and advertising.
If you want to learn more about our relationship with Troma, read this old page about it: NEWGROUNDS and TROMA
Troma has been a great host for all these years. A lot of companies have tried similar network concepts, and they failed. Troma held on for a long time, but unfortunately, the model hasn't been very viable since the internet bubble burst.
It is an exciting and scary time for Newgrounds. It feels great to know that we will once again have 100% control over everything related to NG. This increases our responsibility, however. Not only will we be paying a lot already for hosting, but I intend to double our bandwidth alotment - costing us even more.
It is very important that users support our advertisers. Right now you may have noticed an increase in adult banners on the site. It is great for you to support these (please do!), but ultimately we would like to generate more of our revenue from "clean advertisers". The more you visit and support our clean advertisers, the more we can promote them in place of adult ads.
Check out the new ad we have for Diesel. You can click that link, or the "Oil Klash" button in the left column. Go watch the video, and maybe head over to the mall and buy some Diesel clothes. Tell 'em Newgrounds sent ya! The more we can prove ourselves to mainstream advertisers, the cleaner we can make the ads on NG. So to sum it all up, support our sponsors! :)
Remember - your support will improve the performance of the site, as we need the money for increased bandwidth and upgrades!
Um, what happened to all the sound FX?
Wow. This sounds like a big change Tom. As soon as I get some money I'll do my best to help support NG. I hate those porn ads and would love to see NG land advertising with cleaner products and services. Hell, maybe if things go well NG will grab sponsors who pay way more than the "adult" ads!
I put the "funk" in function()
cool stuff man, finally, no more corporate losers having say in newgrounds, just fulp, this is gonna be good. good luck man
Now You Have To Wash The Floor And Do All Of My Laundry!!!!

That's ok... I don't have buy a clothe of diesel yet. At this weekend I'll go to the mall and buy something...
Some people are talking about that Newgrounds will become in a site of pay... That they have to pay to see the movies or have a membresi... I think that this isn't necesary if we support NG with or clicks and ideas... I Think that sometimes could be we cool if you go to the forum "general" and post something about this, in the front page some people don't read this, they go right to the section "General"...
Sorry for my poor english.
How about awarding points (xp or something new) for clicking banner ads? Too abusable?
Wow, sounds good.
Good luck.
Or as the eternians would say, "Good journey." I'm going to be there all zee way : )

Hehe... I should have addressed this. :)
We are working on major overhauls to the Audio Portal. Yesterday we implemented a screening process, so now we review all submissions by new authors who are contributing for the first time. The sound effects area had become so cluttered with copyright sounds, we decided to just clear it out. We only want original sound effects, which limits it, but we need to be strict to avoid clutter.
I am tempted to scrap the sound effects altogether, and instead offer some static ZIP files with sounds for people to use. This way, the audio Portal would only be used for music loops... Keeping it much cleaner.
Anyone have thoughts on that?

Well, if you do have sound effects, then it might indeed create clutter due to the multitude of effects possible.
However, if it's well organised, it could really turn into a brilliant resource for Flash authors.
I suppose it's all a question of how well the organisation of the sounds in question can be done.
I always try to click on the banners everyday or so to get you a few cents... if need be i'd suggest pop ups ... like 2 a page... fuck i might even buy a shirt... and stickers.
I haven't browsed this site in so long I'm totally lost in all the updates and changes. However, I do think that a collection of pre-screened wavs or MP3's that are most frequently used would be really handy for the users. I know there is at least one sound I've been trying to find for months and it just isn't happening....if it were here that would be pretty damn cool.
Troma is an awesome company though, I'm hoping they'll be at Warped again this summer.
I tended to just ignore the advertisements, but I'll start clickin' around to support NG. What's 5 minutes of my time when otherwise it's the money from your pocket right? Keep up the good work!
w00t i`m glad you are going to double the banwidth! i`ll do anythoing possible to support NG!!!!!
Hmm, Tom you should bring back those soda ads they may be annoying as hell but its the easiest thing to support and that would make it alot easier for you to keep costs down with a major company advertizing on Newgrounds.
Mazel Tov! I hope it works out. I love this site.
Gah, I look away for 2 secs and this appears! Cool@100% control, Tom!

Yeah comorat, Just to let ya know I'm the one with the multiple accounts as well as reviewing your shit after the month of October. KYF doesn't go to NG and he hasn't since Oct 2002.

i must have helped you raise quite some cash from clicking on each and every1 of your porno ads plenty of times. and now i heard the news i will make sure i do it more often and not jus the porn ads! anything!
You'd better find a new company to support NG.
Tom
I got an idea
Paid Search Engines
http://www.last-zone.com/
Like this one
They pay like 0,50 u$s per search from visitors..
Its the best around there...
That can help you a lot

Yeah, I definetly want to support Newgrounds, but i'm certainly not willing to go look at porn to do so. So i'll be glad when some legit advertisers start coming on the site.
wow Tom, I can't believe Newgrounds isn't going to be relying on Troma anymore
Ok so your asking for us to support you with money it so happens im getting my job next month but im not that hardcore of a ng fan and dont even know who you are if i had more info mebbe id donate
Nice one!
Hey Tom! Get my email yet? If you've been too busy lately then that's ok, but please consider putting my animation in the DBZ section, cheers.

Well, why don't you hire a few audio artists who have selfmade soundFX and/or good music loops at their hand. And then post the sounds manually instead of having to check every submission that goes through the audio-portal... That way you can scrap the audio-portal and users will have usefull sounds at hand!
wow! this is big news! congrats, i guess... and goodluck!
