I've searched the forums and haven't seen a topic like this so far, so i apologize in advance if i missed a similar topic. Anyway, I heard that scientists have managed a way to get stem cells without killing embryos. This means that there is no controversy or anything and new medicines can be developed. This is big news.

What this means is a breakthrough in US stem cell research. Everywhere else in the world was still conducting research. This is great for everyone though. We may be entering a new age of medicine because of this.

Who the fuck cares, anyway, it's not like it makes a difference to the embryos.

Stem Cell Research FTW.

Still though, didn't Bush veto the right for stem cell research in America? We're left behind.

when you said "Big News" I thought of the Super Smash Bros. Brawl video when Snake's \boss guy goes "Snake i have "Big News!"

"He had ribbons in his hair, and lipstick was everywhere. You look good in my dress, my beautiful son."

It would mean no more controversy, except that probably about half of the people who had a problem with it because of the embryo-harming factor will still have a problem with it because of the "playing god" factor. There are some people who take issue with people getting too good at science, because it might offend their invisible friend(s) or something.

With the new developments and all, most likely the bill will be put back before congress and pass next time. If there are no embryos being destroyed, the president shouldn't have any reason to deny the research and use of stem cells.

I hope they find out how to cure baldness first. I don't want to go bald. Cancer can wait.

If you go bald, it's your mother's fault. It's carried on the X chromosome, blame her.

That's stupid considering that this whole notion of "harvesting cells from a fetus" is shit. Stem cell research was always conducted as creating the cell through meiosis (sexual reproduction), and then simply manipulating the DNA structure to mimic a specific gene over, so that you would then produce cells capable of regenerating whatever is needed (a kidney, corneas, hair, etc.). This whole "baby-killing" BS is just a way for politicians who are deep in the pockets of medicine companies (who would go out of business if "cures" became available) to convince voters that stem cells are an abomination.

He vetoed federal funding for research. Scientists now have to do everything short of whoring themselves out for contributions.

These people are classic examples of hyprocrites. Curing a disease is considered doing the will of "god," but modern medicine and the ability to end all life as we know it in the flash of a mushroom cloud is "acting through God's will." Pffffft.

Women have XX. Men have XY. A Y makes a child a male. Therefore, my knowledge of Life Science and Punnett Squares is that the Male or Female can transfer baldness since it is X and they BOTH have it.

He vetoed embryonic stem cell research. Umbilical, and other non-embryonic means are still allowed
