For one reason or another, I can't seem to figure out the fill tool in Flash 8 (the trial version). I can tell it to close gaps of all kinds, but no matter what I do, it'll color sometimes and won't others. I figure I'm supposed to use the Paint tool for unusual shapes, although that's a pain. Lock me if this is a stupid question, but I didn't see anything else like this in the help or on the forums, and Flash is a complete mystery to me... /._.\

Well...check this before a panic attack :D
1. That you have SURELY closed ALL gaps (choose close all gaps twice )
2. That your color isnt white o.0 or the color of your background to start off with.
3. That you picked the fill tool
That should do it

I like the word that

In some cases, Flash WILL act like a bitch and you would have to show the whole image to make flash think that the gaps are closed.
Like, you draw a character and you're zoomed in right? Then you try to fill the shape with the "Close large gaps" function. It might not work because to flash, the gap that is onscreen is huge so you'd have to zoom out to make it look like it's a smaller gap. Then it'll fill. Happens occasionally but not all the time.

at least in my case.

If you work with lines, try using the Modify > Shape > Convert Lines to Fills command on the toolbar, it makes the lines become regular shapes, so they should all just connect with each other if they're together.

-_-; Yeah, that sounds like the problem...because it would kind of work sporadically, and I guess I just wasn't picking up on when and why. Thanks!

I have this probelm a lot. Make sure that all of the lines in the shape that you are trying to fill are actually on the same layer. That is what it always was for me.

Sometime this happens to me, what you want to do is change the options for the paint tool to 'close large gaps' then zoom in and it will automatically close any gaps that you didn't close. This always works for me.
