So, what are your favourite VST's? How does it give your productions that extra special something?
I've got to express my love for the Korg MS-20 softsynth because at the end of the day, you can't argue with some vintage dual-oscillator goodness. Surge never lets me down either, excellent lfo routing and phat analogue sound.

i used to be a big fan of pro-53.. then it died on me..

current faves include hypersonic.. hypercanvas.. garritan.. the grande.. z3ta.. and various 8-bit and effect vstis... 99% of all vstis i have I dont even use neways - its like women and their shoes.. they want then just so they can say they have them and maybe one day out of their lives they'll wear them.. :P

I'm such an audio FAG! Actually, I'm THE audio fag!

You guys have some seriously awesome software! Can't argue with the Wavestation, that thing is classic! And the X-Y morph is out of this world if you have like 8 sounds stacked up. Chronamut, gottta give props to your gear, too bad about the Pro-53, it can create some seriously wicked and twisted sounds, and the number of presets is staggering!
Beast, Vanguard...Z3ta+...I've got the demos, I don't think I could live without them. (although I say that about all my stuff)!

Does anyone have that fancy Hartmann Neuron thingamajig? Its in hardware as well and looks pretty futuristic. Price is a bit of a turnoff though.

I have lots of fun with Edirol's Orchestral and Hyper Canvas. And I'm currently looking into Garritan Jazz Big Band.

But my favorite is the EVP73 Rhodes. I sometimes will just start up Cubase, assign it to a MIDI track and start improvising for two hours straight (without recording anything)(it just doesn't have a stand-alone thing)...

Excellent choice man, Garritan Jazz Big Band is just awesome. I don't use anything else for my brass instruments anymore.

That's really unfortunate!

- R5 is my absolute favorite - although it's a little unfair to say that it's my favorite VST - that's kind of like someone asking what my favorite audio application is and me saying "PC-based apps"

Reaktor 5 rocks hard imo, but the CPU requirements are way too intense! I'm lucky if I can run 2 instances of the new synths without getting all kinds of crackles and other rubbish. Sometimes I think that the sound isn't very warm as well...I dunno...
Anyone recommend any mad ensembles for Reaktor? I'm been getting into 2*osc rencently, gets it done! The wavetable one that gives you retro sounds is cool, but i think I prefer Quadrasid overall for that kind of thing, and its free! absolutely free!!!

?? really ?? - I'm not running a powerhouse or anything here - I have a AMD Athlon 64 , 3700+ and 1 Gb of RAM... I can usually run 10 or 12 instances of Reaktor each at a 44100 sample rate without any problems.

To add a little warmth stick a copy of FlatBlaster 2+ in there - the 'Platinum finalizer' preset is nice and with a little tweaking it'll really get your speakers humming.

Here are a few freebies for all of you - these are courtesy of our good pals over at "Computer Music" magazine:

ErsDrums
Polyiblit
Augur
KarmaFX - (great vst!!)
Nubi3
Crystal - (another really nice one!)

go get 'em while you can -

10 instances!! I envy you! I've got the same ram and my processor is a 2800. I think it has some demons or something, I need an exorcist!

Thanks for that advice, I really should try out some of those mastering and enhancing tools, and particularly thanks for the leads on those cool vst's. KarmaFX is a real gem! I love this thing!
