It also seems that the straight male steryotype (forgive me if that is spelled wrong) always needs to be bailed out of his problems by a women. Im not sexest but it seems as though straight white males are being portrayed as racist fat slobs who are inferior to all other groups of people, women, minoritites, and homosexuals.

Really? Because I find that there's substantially MORE T.V. shows that don't show straight white men that way. Watch something that isn't comedy (remember, comedy isn't supposed to be taken seriously!).

What do you consider yourself politically? I agree with you on a lot of things.

A quote from my myspace page:
"By looking at me you’d probably guess I’m an anticapitalist, left-winged, antiauthoritarian, tree-hunger. Which pretty much hits the mark."
Also chuck in "Liberal, libertarian, antiroyalist, Scottish-nationalist."
And the older i get, the more of a Libertarian i become.

Yes... because pink triangles were just the Nazis' fabulous sense of fashion appeal.
I've never seen a group of gays being turned away from a restaraunt with a fire hose. Have you? I was reading a story in Details that brought to light an interesting situation I thought would be worth commenting on: the rise of heterophobia and the lampooning of the straight man.
You have no idea about gay history.
Read up the shit that happened to gay people during the 60s and 70s in San Francisco and Greenwhich Village. (Lots of fire hosing and crap like that.)
Cape Cod has recently had a lot of problems with hate speech concerning gays. What makes this so different is that gay men have been scrawling "Breeder" on the cars of straight men and generally making life rough for the woman-inclined. Though you never hear about that. You never hear about it because that isn't how gays are supposed to act. That isn't how they are portrayed in the media.
A few gay people react violently.
Why should that represent the whole population?
Compare this in contrast the sheer amount of times straight people have done crap to gay people.
And yet...
so many gay people are just forgiving by not clumping all straight people as unsensible fag bashers.
Contrast Will from Will and Grace with any number of straight men on television: Jim from Yes, Dear; Earl from My Name is Earl; Denny from Boston Legal. With the exception of perhaps Jack Bauer, the straight man is a slob, an ignorant idiot, someone to be saved from his own blunders, a slovenly, usually out-of-shape dolt out of touch with fashion.
Boo fucking hoo-hoo...
So television has to use stereotypes.
That's so noval.
Compare that to gay men on television and you begin to see what is, increasingly, a heterophobia. The straight man is not cool in comparison to the gay man. Gay men - thin, trim, perfectly coiffed and dressed, hanging around the trendiest night spots - those are the television idols. Is there a show on television that has someone like Will living in a slum apartment like Earl's? No. With the exception of perhaps Sex and the City, do you see people like Ray Romano at The 21 Club? No.
They don't serve their kind.
Dude...
gay comes in all shapes, colors, genders, etc.
I've seen gay people who are in the Ray Romano mold. I know slum apartments that belong to gay people.
Take my word for it...
I know whats gay--
AND it's not what you're describing.

Seriously, where I used to work there were many gay people, and trust, not a single was the metro mold. I doubt many of them showered daily, they were pretty slobby. But all were very nice people, especially the women, the guys were a little odd (for anyone's standards.)

Because he thinks that there's some sort of dichotomy where you're either a capitalist or a totalitarian.
And he fails to recognize the difference between social and economic libertarianism.

So what?
Let's look at a couple other situations.
A Hetero Couple goes to the county courthosue to file for a marriage liscence and they get happily married, now we all know what would happen if a homosexual couple were to try the same thing...
A white guy applies for a white collar job and gets the job easily. A Black man applies for the same job and he gets turned down even though he more than qualified.
Quit trying to vilify the weak. You just pick up on every little bad thing they do just to say they're bad as legitimization for hating them. I'd say that the next person who claims that gays are evil for any reason should clean out their own damn closet first!
As the saying goes, people in glass houses...

I think Der Pandar should host his own talk show,
and use his bully pulpit to call attention to the constant
straight guy bashing that exists in our society.
Let's get a petition going, which we shall submit to
the producers of "SpikeTV".

No, but I bet if they publicized it, a remarkably large amount of store owners would ask them. But you're right, their "suffering" is in no way equivalent to those to examples.
I was reading a story in Details that brought to light an interesting situation I thought would be worth commenting on: the rise of heterophobia and the lampooning of the straight man.
Cape Cod has recently had a lot of problems with hate speech concerning gays. You heard about it. YankeeFli did too. I guess some people do hear about it.
That isn't how they are portrayed in the media. With the exception of perhaps Jack Bauer, the straight man is a slob, an ignorant idiot, someone to be saved from his own blunders, a slovenly, usually out-of-shape dolt out of touch with fashion.
I don't watch enough T.V. to really rebuke you (hell, I don't even of cable, nor do I know what Boston Legal is), but I'll try anyway. First, the other husband from Yes Dear is heterosexual, thin, clean, and nice. Same with Jerry and Kramer from Seinfeld (although Kramer is a little strange). On Will and Grace (a show that I watch because I think is funny. Just because I watch it doesn't mean I'm homosexual), Will has many dates with the media's "stereotypical heterosexual", except that his date is homosexual, rather than hetero. Also, there are so many heterosexual man on T.V. that they can be slovenly, clean, rude, et cetera. It just depends on the T.V. show.
As a basic curve, you're right that heterosexual man (on T.V.) is commonly a fat, lazy, bald, et cetera. So, I guess that means that comedy employs stereotypes for humor. Wow! Show me a serious, non-comedic T.V. show that depicts heterosexuals in such a manner.
What's your actual point in this message? I'm seriously asking. Is it that the media doesn't show true homosexuals, but rather their stereotypes? That's not wierd, that's just the media. Could you give a little more information on this event (preferably a link)?
This is an odd situation in Cape Cod, but heterosexuals, all over, do the same thing to gays. Some gays start doing the same thing. Was it for a reason, or was it just done in spite? If it's retaliation, I understand. But if it was done without provocation, that's very hypocritical.

It's official. Now, everyone truly is a victim of discrimination. The Christians are about to be toppled by hordes of Evolution preaching, homosexual loving athiests who are in cahoots with the Islamic Terrorists. Athiesm, on the other hand, is about to be outlawed because the government is about to be overthrown by a Christian Theocracy. Please, I'm getting so sick and tired of it. Everyone is out to get everyone anymore. There still is some discrimination out there, but we are all becoming too damned sensitive to it.
First, let me state that the portrayal of white men has been a comedic archetype for decades now. Obviously many people in here have never seen an episode of the Honey Mooners. Ralph Cramdon, the lead character, fits the steryotype perfectly. He is a fat, slovenly bus driver who usually gets involved in all sorts of hair brained get rich quick schemes, and he is usually rebuked by his more intelligent wife who always turns out to be right in the end. Obviously more feminism gone awry, except that it was filmed in the 1950's, the last decade in recent history where the white male was at the top of the pecking order and few were actively looking to topple him. It isn't discrimination. It's a lack of creativitiy combined with the use of tested archetypes.
Second, as many people here have already pointed out, there are many serious television shows where white men are still portrayed as competent and intelligent. There are shows where they are police officers, lawyers, fire fighters, police, and even shockingly enough, president of the United States!
Honestly, it is this sort of bullshit that is making our country decline.l Why do you think the lines are drawn so fiercely now compared to most other points in our nations history? It's because we are all trying to keep our own position, and we are all becoming paranoid about anyone or anything that appears to contradict it, as though in doing so they are actively looking to destroy us. Seriously, its time for everyone to lighten up a bit.
The Internet is like a screwdriver. You can use it to take an engine apart and understand it, or you can see how far you can stick it in your ear until you hit resistance.

It goes both ways I guess, maybe gay people dont want to be portrayed as shallow, camp, irritating, fashion obsessed pussies.
