Audio Portal, FDA, and more!

Some of you may think we had forgotten about the Audio Portal after launching it. Well, we haven't! It has very much been on our minds, in fact.

If you view the listings, you will now see some nifty preview buttons. These allow you to listen to the music without having to download a ZIP file. MP3s will play directly (the button was made in Flash), and .WAV files should open in your browser's music player. We are also about to introduce some new features that will have a big impact on cleaning up the audio portal and keeping it free of copyrighted material. Not to mention we still need to have featured artists and profile credits! All this is in the works!

Shok and company continue to work on the new FDA, which is expected to arrive early next week! Check out Shok's webcam image for a sneak peak. It has been 2.5 years since a new FDA was released! Excited stuff, eh? Expect cameo art by a bunch of NG artists in this one!

Finally, please take a moment to fill out this on-line poll. It is very short, and especially important for X-BOX owners.

Finally some FDA i went to see it in the arcives and loved it so i will look forward to it,
but tom when are you going to finish that simari game and the alien game, i found them through nrewground's bite size and you said that you would bring out the full game of both of them because they were demo's but it was some thing like 3 years ago and still no game has come when tom WHEN!!!!!!!! i loved that alein game where you kill people!

Yes. Now for something completely different.
These changes I would like:
1) When I'm reviewing a movie and it gets blammed while writing it, my review is not saved and all my crafty abuse is lost forever.
2) There is no Review this movie - button on the page after voting, so I have to risk the terror of not getting a point while writing a review and the movie goes off Evaluation period. sure i could use the back button after voting, but review link could also be on the page after voting.
3) Why can't I read other peoples' reviews after posting mine or after voting, when the movie is still under judgement ?
4)I have now saved/blammed 6136 flash entries. Since i'm such a sport, I would like to have more than 10 favorite flashes. Currently 20 favs would suffice. This way people who mistakenly trust my judgement and view those flashes might get to see something they like. Going through the old-portal is tiring.

side note: If peeps wouldn't get blam/save points, movies would get voted on fairly instead of 5 or 0.
If there is some point for rank then let's keep it, but is there ?
Sure having rank brings people back to blam or save a lot of stuff, but if NG is becoming too popular for the bandwidth, removing save/blam points would certainly decrease traffic. (I'm kindof a point Hog myself)

I'm sad to say, but the Audio Portal works horribly. First of all, the flash is too demanding so my computer nearly freezes when there's too many sounds on one page. Secondly, it takes too long to allow the sounds to play in Windows Media Player... can't you try and use something more like what they've got at flashkit? as it is now, I CAN'T use the audio portal.

Yeah, I noticed that preview button in the audio portal, at first I didn't like that I had to download the file in order to hear it. well, anyways, have to go check out the poll Toms talkin about.

same here, i have netscape 6 and when i go to the audio portal and i press to preview a song it will show the arrows to indicate loading and then it will show the stop button but no music. or it will say "File couldn't be found." why is that?

The Audio Portal is really useful. I especially like the sound ratings, you can know which sound are the best. I plan to use those sounds for further flash animations.

I think once it really gets established it'll be a huge help to a lot of aspiring flash artists (hopefully raising the average quality of portal submissions as a consequence).
