Argument for Simpsons:

Doesn't force you to laugh.
Is more careful when making you jokes so they rarely run into a "sour" joke.
Resorting to shock value like Family guy does grows tiresome after a while.
Much more family-oriented show with less sexually suggestive themes and crude humor.
Characters are much more realistic. The events that occur to them are much more realistic, don't stretch the lawsof physics.
Rarely doe it stray from a plot.
Follows a style that it itself came up with. (Intro 5 min. Sub-plot 10 mins. Main plot occuring from subplot's result. This is done very effectively.
Much more parodistic than Family Guy and conveys messages not unlike South Park

Argument for Family Guy

Nonsensical, it's good for those who don't need to follow a plot because in reality, it's just an animated show.
Thin boundaries. Shock value is felt even before the show because you know that nothing is restraining this show besides the fcc who doesn't even do a good job of censorship.
Isn't afraid to insult it's own viewers. It never lets down. They give no room for someone who has never seen it before and is unsure to taste a little taste. You always get the full bowl.
You don't really know what to expect with the jokes pertaining to past human disasters (hiroshima, jfk assassination) or celebrity icons.

In my opinion, I like shows without boundaries. I don't like the Simpsons or South Park as much (I do like them) because to me there is nothing that can happen to the show after it's been on so long. (Bart will always remain ten, the kids in south park will always hate family guy and just be kids...) Even though family guy always seems to return to normal in the end, you always have the sense that the show has progressed some how. It's very much like seinfeld in that respect

Both of them are great, but I watch Family Guy more, so I say Family Guy.

Family Guy is a lot better.

Falily guy has more stupid and immature humor, but it has more jokes than the simpsons, the simpsons is the longest running cartoon and comedy of all time, but th enewer episodes aren't as good. THere the arguement in settled

anyway family guy for the fact its so much funnier stoned. & simpsons have become very unoriginal, unfunny in the past say 7 seasons

if you asked me this a few years ago i would say the simpsons,but they have ran out of ideas. They bring celebriaties to make their show get higher ratings and it is not funny anymore so i have to go with family guy.

Simpsons is getting bland, but FG is newer so its.....not as bland.
Plus the jokes are better because they are not restrained so kids can watch the show too.

The first few seris of the simpsons were the best.
The new seris are lame though which is why I started to watch family guy more.
The simpsons are making a movie though. That should get laughs.

Simpsons is dried out and worn. Family Guy is fresh and the Simpsons are dieing. If the Simpsons were ended around the 4th season or 6th, they would've died with honor and the show's wou;d stay fresh would never get old. Family guy I can't say sin'ce it's only been 5 seasons but if they do to Family Guy what they did to The Simpsons then Family Guy will suck as well. Your smart enough to guess which one I prefer.

simpsons is a great show, and family guy has its moments. in my opinion, family guy is less planned out and more random (which makes it pwn) and the simpsons, is more planned and follows the story throughout the show. but thats just me...

Family Guy, the simpsons just isn't funney. There are some episodes that are like sidcoms, like when bart liked an older girl.

Family Guy is just one random joke after another. Although they're not all funey most of them are.

First, sticking a hand in your arse is the closest you can come to "going off into your own", second it was close enough to the topic at hand to be considered on-topic and I had already answered the original question so it wasn't a spam-post, and third me calling Futurama new can be explained by the joy of not living in the USA.. all American series are shown here about 2-3 years after they've been shown there ;)

Seriously though, I didn't know that.
Not much to look forward to then. And it seemed so much fun :(

Simpsons will always have my heart....I love Homer, Flanders, Mr.Burns, and Sideshow Bob! They're such memorable characters. Family Guy is okay, but I just love the Simpsons. <3

id say simpsons, atleast they have a storyline, family guy is peter having flashback all the time

The Simpsons has a much longer history, and they were great in the past :)

But Family guy has too much interchangable flashbacks that are completly irrelevent to the story; Cartman FTW.

The Simpsons.
Why? Because they write jokes for the story and not a story for the jokes. Because they don't have to fill in extra time with having a character laugh for 2 minutes straight. Because the comedy is alot less stupid.

What I've noticed is that The Simpsons has kind of "grown up."
They evolved into more of a sitcom and remind me of an animated version of friends. It caters more to the audience that grew up with them. All of my friends like The Simpsons more then Family Guy because unfourtanetly, we grew up. We're 17 and fart jokes no longer make us laugh. However situational comedy (ala, simpsons) is awesome.

The old Simpsons such as season 4 and 5 have a lot of funny jokes that you can't fin anywhere else. The new simpsons are alright, but not as funny as the old ones. You just can't find the same humor. All of Family guy jokes are "Like this one time I...". Overall simpsons is better than Family Guy both from the old one and new ones, comical wize.
