I've heard of metal drummers breaking, metal and carbon sticks before. Mad crazy people, love them.

When you think about it, it's not that hard to believe :). I mean, pounding flat slabs (and sharp ridgy bits if you keep doing rimshots) of metal over and over again is bound to do some degree of damage to ANY material that is half an inch thick or less ;)

I went to this really gay bluegrass concert at an opera house in west virginia last month and these three guys broke EVERYTHING you could imagine.
The Avett(sp?) Brothers, one standup bassist, one banjoist and one accoustic guitarist
The accoustic guitarist broke about 5 strings throughout the concert, they would alternate his guitar with another one and restring it so that they'd have the first one ready when he broke his second's one's strings. These guys must have played HARD. Their music sucked anyway, it was just a LOT of banging of chords and screaming. My family at the family reunion wanted to go.
The banjo...ist...broke a few less, maybe 3 or 4 strings. He also had alternating guitars. And they always broke strings in the middle of the song, lol. Had to alternate guitars with the rodeys and re-connect to the sound system.
And for the grand finale...in the last 20 minutes, the stand up bassist BROKE HIS UPRIGHT BASS! Everyone exploded with applause, the entire neck snapped from the head, it was hilarious. I think he did it when he, being the idiot he is, elegantly *dropped* his bass to the floor for showy-ness and caught it before it hit. Maybe he missed it one time?
So he just played G C and D chords on an accoustic the whole time, lol!
And they had a concert the next night in Nashville at the grand ole opery! LOL. :"Anyone have an upright bass RIGHT NOW?":

I got new strings for my lead guitar recently, and broke one stringing it, then broke another one playing about ten minutes later. Then I almost broke the guitar when I threw it into the floor :P
Stupid piece of crap

That happened to me too, same string breaking within days of replacing it. You could have some "shrapnel" left over where the string broke. Take some very fine grit sandpaper and smooth it out, then take a cloth and clean that off. Should do the trick. I havent broken a string in a couple months now (although I do use 11 guage)

The only time I ever have string breakage is when I'm tuning a 3 year old high e :P
Maybe I'm just not metal enough to play the guitar??? :(

I never really break strings either. I never used to get a chance to go get more since the guitar shop was so damn far from my house so if I broke a string I just had to deal with it for a while until I could get a new set. I had to teach myself to be more careful and now it's been ages since I last broke a string.
Look at it this was you're TOO metal to break strings. Your metalness holds them together even after they break haha.

Next morning I wake up and think "let's play some guitar". I start playing and after 10 minutes... THE NEW FUCKING STRING BROKE at the bridge!
How could that happen? I had just replaced it!
Possible causes:
-A lot of palm muting, and maybe a bit too hard, causing it to break at level of the bridge
-Something else
Anyone could help me find out why it broke (based on an experience or anything else)? I'm not gonna buy new strings every day.
1. don't replace just one string. that's always a bad move. replace 'em all.
2. don't forget to stretch new strings. that way they stay in tune better and they don't unevenly stretch.
3. make sure there is no digs in your bridge. this can cause snags and string breakage.
how to properly stretch strings:
always strech one string at a time.
put your index finger under the string and lift it up. press your thumb down on the string while still lifting the string with the index finger. thumb in front of the string, move from bridge to nut then back to the bridge stretching the string. then place the thumb behind the index finger. move from the nut to the bridge the back to the nut stretching the string.
continue with all strings.
this creates a string that will stay in tune better, still sound new, and won't break as the tension loosens during playing. i hope that helps ya.

my friend has this problem. the bridge might not be that worn down and the sharp point (this is if it's a double bridge) could be causing it to snap. if you look at your bridge and it is sharp, just sand it down a bit. but if it's a single bridge...i haven't a clue
