Step 1: Download Flash

Flash Pro 8 - 30 day free trial. Costs $699

You can also get a student version for $249

Flash Basic 8 - 30 day free trial. Costs $399

LiveSwif - Free, but extremely poor(note: tutorials are for Flash Pro/Flash Basic, not LiveSwif).

Step 2: Look at some tutorials to learn flash. If you want more then use Google. Also check out AS: Main for actionscript tutorials/help.

Step 3: Any problems you have, ask questions in the Flash Forum

Flash MX is an older version, you can see what Flash 8 has, that Flash MX doesn't here.

I have both... because for simpler tasks, MX is easier to use.
For more complex, mind-boggling jobs, I use Flash 8.

I am also interested in learning how to make flash cartoons, I dont know if I can invest in the expensive macromedia software, I just downloaded liveswif for free but I cant seem to find any tutorials for it. What would be the best thing to do?

Like I said, you can download a 30-day free trial. Try it out for yourself and see if you think it's worth it.

I'll do one better than all of you here and it only costs $50 DOLLARS !!! i havent got it from there yet but will soon my dad has read through everything and it looks legit. no cd though only download which is why it costs so little and no book manual (but if you look on websites the amount of free and pay for tutorials is amazing)or help from the help center (but newgrounds is proably better for help)
