A friend of mine got a 1600 SATs in addition to having a 4.2 weighted GPA for his high school career. And his IQ is only 136. 136 is high and all, but nothing that special or rare.

Um... dude...... I go to Stevenson High School, in Lincolnshire, IL. This is a school to be reckoned with. It has 4,600 students, some odd, 400 teachers, and is in the top 24 high schools in the nation, believe it or not, and in another grouping of top high schools, it is in the top 100 in the nation. In the state of Illinois, it is number 2. You want to know how many actual GENIUSES I know? More than you could probably imagine. One of my friends, doesn't believe his IQ, since it is so high, but he told me, and I was not surprised, 155. The number for genius.... is 131. I am 122 whether you want to believe that or not. That is in the superior range. But trust me, most of my friends, are WAY smarter than me. I can promise you, that a lot of them, are of genius level or higher. This is due to the fact, that many of us were brought up in District 96, one of the best elementary/jr high districts in the nation. We would learn math levels that most high schools teach in 9th or 10th grade.... in 6th or 7th grade. I have multiple friends, who by Sophomore year, were in Precalculus Honors/Accelerated, or AP Calculus.

Enough said, my school seems to probably pwn your school.

I think it is all about understanding, and some people are better at things that others, and it would take a lot of training to reach their level, if at all. Like someone who can draw amazing pictures without even trying, while you can't even come close if you spent an hour and focused the whole time.

There are kids who don't do homework or care about class, but still get the highest grades in the class, while someone who spent 3 hours studying can barely get a C.

It is the same with someone who can rebuild an old car into a modern high performance vehicle with tons of add-ons, while someone else can create an amazing flash movie in a short time.

Someday "Genius" will have to be split up into auto-genius, science-genius, social-genius, political-genius. Because someone doesnt have to be really "smart" or have a high IQ (those tests aren't that great anyways, since you see idiotic people getting high scores cus they are good test takers or know the "type" of things on the test) to be a genius.

Man you don't have to be smart to get good grades. I was raised in brooklyn so i learned how to blackmail ppl quick. just folo your teacher home and get somedirt on em and you will get good grades for the year. But then again I am already kinda smart. You just gotta pay attention, listen and if necessary, blackmail the teacher. hell, I might be considered a genius because all i got were straight out A-'s all year. And that was without the blackmail. but w/e. Some ppl are naturally talented and some learn to become talented. But really, who cares if theres a genius at your school. Hell I can answer some advanced shit and I go around doing stupid shit and playing video games and always doing my homework before I go to school.

I strongly disagree, The smart guy in my class which I was talking about said something similar and it discusted me! He said; "Anyone can get an A if they work hard for it!"
- This statement is so untrue! I work a lot and often go overtime; I go to after-school lessons every week, I always listen to the teacher and I can work through the questions fine. The problem is when I get to the exam, the questions are so MUCH HARDER then what we normally do that it takes me a long time to think through them and end up not finishing in time.

everyone has the potential to be an overachiever. but only if they always have been. you cant decide one year that your going to study real hard and never get less then A+ if you have been slacking your entire life. it does not work.

Wrong. I know plenty of total slacker stoners that completely turned it around before the end of high school.

Pft - I was the same till I hit about the age of 14 and really never cared or tried, it just seemed easy to me and I could remember it no problem.Unfortunately later in life that doesn't seem to work the same way, that you actually NEED to do the work, and just reading it once and forgetting it till you need it will not work. Some of the stuff I was doing in school was university level work, though I still managed to get a B in it even though I slept through most of the classes and spent about 15 hours less on my final project than the rest of the class.

I guess that in computing and English I am naturally talented at both, and can achieve high grades while doing no work at all, hell, last year I got an A-band 1 (top 1% in the country) and didn't turn up to half my classes and was hungover half the time. However, with maths and science I really do need to start working at University, as I will be taking a 4 years honours course in computer science...

As for the IQ thing, a few years ago I had an IQ of 142 or thereabouts - but I really don't place any importance in that - I would much rather have a good social life, good friends and generally have fun in life than be able to say "OMG IM MORE INTELLIGENT THAN YOU".

Minds shall break and bring a clear sky.

I reckon if you focus you can get good marks in most subjects, and even if you're not brilliant at things like maths you can still do alright with a bit of effort and enough confidence.

But I'll never be particularly good at things like art or woodwork or whatever. So some is based on talent.

And I get me the good grades all the time.
