If you're against abortion, would you trade face with her?
I rest my case.

"Juliana was born with Treachers Collins Syndrome, a mutation that hampers embryonic development of bones and cartilage in the face and skull. Approximately 1 in 10,000 children are born with Treachers Collins and the extent of the deformity ranges from barely noticeable to severe. The real kicker is that people with Treachers Collins are usually born with normal intelligence.
Deformity was detected early in Juliana's development, but doctors believed that it was probably a cleft palate. No further diagnosis was sought. Regardless of the severity of her defect, Juliana's parents were not going to consider seeking an abortion. Juliana's mother, Tami, nearly bled to death in the process of giving birth. When her father saw Juliana he wept. Whenever Thom Westmore talks about his daughter, he weeps. "
I feel sad for that girl. :-(

While abortion is bad...
I think this would be a good reason to leave it as an option.
I'm pro-life, but I'm also pro-satisfaction-in-life, and there is no way in the world that girl will have much satisfaction in life.

I saw a 1-year-old with that disease. She has it moderate, but that would be just so hard... :'(

That argument doesn't make sense. It's about as intelligent as "If you're for war, would you be willing to send your son there?" Not that I expect any intelligence from you.
It's a sad situation though, and I probably wouldn't choose it for my child.

Abortion is a personal choice. Women need the right to control their bodies. In fact, in this case, because so MUCH suffering is brought into the world, the doctors ought have advised the woman to abort. Personal choice is really the key here.

The guy wouldn't have much of a choice at such a wedding.

How come you contradict every single thing you say? Let's dissect these remarks.
At 8/4/06 09:38 PM, HighlyIllogical wrote: Abortion is a personal choice. Women need the right to control their bodies.
And...this relates...to...the topic at hand...how? Obviously the woman who gave birth to the child was pro-life, numb-nuts.
In fact, in this case, because so MUCH suffering is brought into the world, the doctors ought have advised the woman to abort.
And then you go ahead and contradict your first and last remark. "Woman should have choice, but she should have aborted child." You're not pro-choice, you're pro-abortion. The woman chose to have her kid and you say, "The doctors should have advised abortion," (as if they didn't).

You're misusing the expression. It's when a woman gets unintentionally pregnant and the father of the girl coerces the father of his daughter's child into marriage. In this case it's a highly unlikely scenario.

This is more of a case of how suicide should be legalized and state allowed.
That is so fucked up. Its like watching your grandparent with alzheimers. You know their life is over by all means but it just takes forever to end.

How about this...assuming there was an option for the mother to abort, and she KNEW that this was the disorder, should she have?
Assuming she doesn't want to bring suffering into the world, then, for, if it were ME, I'd abort. If she is willing to care for this child, then props and government help to her!

True, but it is possible, which means I didn't misuse the expression at all.
If, by some work of God, someone accidentally lays this girl, and she got pregnant, that would be her only chance to get married, and I'm sure her father would gladly force the dumbass blind guy into marrying the girl.

You guys are missing the part where it says she's had 3 MILLION DOLLARS of state-paid surgery done to her so far.
And quite frankly, she'd need about 50 more million :o

How could anyone be "for war" yet not willing to accept the fact that they or someone they know/ care for might be hurt by them???
What's this shit you're talking about?
If you're pro/against abortion, you have to realise that the final decision applies to EVERYONE so you have to think of what it would be like to be in anyone's situation. "Do onto others as you would have them do on to you" ( or something like that ).
Its common sense o.O
I don't know where you live. In a place where people love to get insulted apparently.

Yes, GOD YEAH.
I am not a woman and never will be pregnant, but I can't imagine that another 9 months of pregnancy isn't worth avoiding a lifetime of weeping every time you think about your daughter.
This is extremely sad on so many levels.

Lol. Reality from a joke.
On the otherhand, she could get a well paying job, capitalizing on her misfortune. She could become a famous sci-fi actor, beloved around the world for her talent!
I actually feel pretty bad for her, though.
Also, check out the new front page feature on the website...
"The most fabulous place for just homeless people to lay down and die"
"Let's say you're walking from the soup kitchen (I recommend Holy Apostles on Ninth Avenue in NYC, the ambiance is divine) to your swanky temporary shelter under the highway overpass, when suddenly you think, "Hey maybe I should lay down and die." Instead of exerting all sorts of effort by further exploring the idea and doing research, simply stop mid-stride and lay down to die right where you are."

7... a whopping 7 abortions? I think you're taking into the rumors way too much over there.
The only way I can see any human being doing that would be an insanely rich prostitute who doesn't use condoms.
in deformation cases it should be a choice.
It should always be left a choice. It doesn't matter if it's just "convenient" or if it's a case such as deformity. If a girl doesn't want to, she shouldn't have to (same with sex).

Who would want to pay for that?
Who would want to even perform the operation (without using a gun)?
The government has put in enough for that girl, you can't fix butt-ugly.
I don't know where you live. In a place where people love to get insulted apparently.
You have no idea...
Well she won't kill herself for a many long years still. She's just a kid.
I read about a nine year old hanging himself, but I don't know if it's true or not.
At what age would you suppose a child can become suicidal?
Yes, GOD YEAH.
That's nice of you, but you didn't have to put so much emphasis on it...
"Hmm... should I kill my unborn child?"
"YES!!! DO IT!!!"
I am not a woman and never will be pregnant, but I can't imagine that another 9 months of pregnancy isn't worth avoiding a lifetime of weeping every time you think about your daughter.
Some people love children way too much, so they go through with it and have the government spend tons of cash to fix the was-once-avoidable face.
This is extremely sad on so many levels.
You, sir, have turned me pro-choice.

man... i really dont think this is about the MOTHER wanting or not wanting to care for this child. its really about the child. if you know your kid is gonna look like a monster and that it will be absolutely impossible for that kid to lead anything even close to a normal life, no matter what you do as a parent... then you should really, seriously, think about abortion.
i guess you can always say "but thats so superficial, theres more to people than just their... face!" yeah, id like to think that, too. but its already hard for someone who HAS a face but is ugly to deal with peoples reactions, since society IS superficial, no matter what you do or say. so whats it gonna be like for someone who hardly even ressembles a human being? well, i guess when you get to know that little girl youll find out that shes really sweet and not "all that different" from a "normal" little girl, but the average person on the street will just see her without getting to know her. and shell always be rejected.
