Well, the first time I was suffering from insomnia was last year, when I had mononucleosis. For 5 days in a row, I couldn't sleep. Life just seemed to flash by. Someone could talk to me for 5 minutes without realizing it. I had no awareness of time or space whatsoever. Sometimes I would doze off, without falling asleep, and regain consciousness again in a different room, or outside on the street.
Every now and then, the insomnia faded away, and I managed to sleep again. But those were only short periods. Usually, I'd just lie on the couch all day, looking like a zombie, and coughing up...everything.
After a couple of months, I returned to school. At first, I could sleep just fine, but at the beginning of this schoolyear, I couldn't sleep any longer than 4 hours in row. Most of the time, I didn't sleep at all during schoolweeks. I caught up some sleep during weekend,s but it was but a minor relief.
One time, I fell asleep during class. I dropped my head on the bench without realizing it. Left a bit of a bruise too. This doesn't seem very odd or anything, happens all the time, but all of a sudden, I could hear someone scream in my dream:
"HOLY FUCK ******* IS DEAD!!!"
(I'm a pale person, but they were exaggerating, I thought. I was half awake at that point.) Apparently, my teacher almost had a heartattack at that point. They really thought I was dead, untill my neighbour, who had been sitting at a distance, staring at me, shook my shoulder. I woke up. They told me to never do that again.
