nothing. It's not ever going to be intellectual. It's not an intellectual site. Flashes are made to be entertaining rather than sophisticated and challenging, and the audience responds to this. There's no easy solution, aside from authoritarianism from the mods, locking every stupid thread, and even then that'd take forever for any real change to happen.

And anyway, almost every general forum on the internet is stupid.

First off, "news" threads are plentiful and not locked.
And we're just starting to lock video threads for very good reasons:
1-to archive them so everyone has something to browse to watch videos
2-to cut backs on lame-o post +1 comments alla "cool" "sweet vid" "ouch!!".

The fact that people don't comment very much at all on anything in the video gallery just proves my point that they posted in those thread simply to up their count in the first place, being too lazy to read anything longer than a page.

Sometimes I am entertained by some of the more horrible posts, anyway, and we'd lose that with more intellect.

If you want to get high and speak intelligent issues than the Politics forum is as close as this site gets.

The flash forum is often used to speak about flash techniques, action scripting and a place to organise collabs. Now it has become a place of leaniency and more so a lounge for regular flash artist to exert more inside jokes.

General forums is just that: where all the shit goes. Whenever someone cuts off two fingers or someones girlfriend gets a piercing or that somebody has life problems they seek here first. But the consequences of freedom being a two-way street and how people have the right to freedom of expression to say what they had for breakfast or to discuss which gaming system is superior or even if people just simple want to draw or photoshop.

That is my two cents.

People are attracted to awards/prizes and/or leveling up that's why they put in NG experence well since people like them and they get people more respect why not create a system where the smarter you are the more awards or leveling up. I know people will try to act smarter because of it.

Why don't we use some of the ideas that the users suggested? Like crackdown dates, and a little more stricter rules (but not to much). We could also use an edit button so if we make an error in a post, we could fix it so it's not considered spam (this option applys to mods and users, except that mods can edit anyones post). More mods like Wade suggested in one of his threads could help alot too (but make sure they don't abuse their power, who wants a mod that abuses their power?).

With a little push in the right direction, I believe that this forum can become a little bit more intelligent. Someday, I hope to see this forum with intelligent humor and posts, funny threads, and friendly users who won't jump on stupid bandwagons. This place can become this vision someday if, and only if, we enforce some new rules and practices (don't make them too strict though).

As for leveling up on intelligent posts, you could gain more exp by the more [yes]'s you get on your posts and lose exp for the [no]'s that you may get. Each BBS user that may say [no] or [yes] can only have it checked like a radio button. No mass voting [no]'s every day or hour on someone you hate.

Instead of having this next to each post a user makes it could be below the users level image. "This user is generally a good poster: [yes] [no]" And you will have a little rectangle below it with a red background and green bar representing the percentage of [yes] / [no].

That seems like it would work but its just really a huge pain to make and mostly impractical. Still no solutions.

Newgrounds is a website that is based around cartoons and computer games. You really can't expect much intelect from its target audience.

I think that should be in with "The Big Ones" of the rules, seeing as it's crappy posts like that that ruin the BBS. Also, General Conduct of the rules should say "Your post or reply will be deleted and you might get banned [for making a lame post]". It's going with the same idea of the ability to destroy threads; people will learn what's right and what's not right to post. Heck, I learned what kind of threads mods of Newgrounds generally think are spam because my ass got banned so many times from posting in a spam topic.

Mods should delete these lame posts. Even I delete some retarded posts in the forum I mod, and that forum isn't as big as the Newgrounds BBS.

I noticed that overall traffic to the BBS increased for about a few days after Wade made his front-page post telling NG users to invade these forums with intellect. However, I have yet to see any drastic changes. This place is still the same it has always been for the most part, and it really hasn't gotten any smarter than it previously was. The bottom line is that this place will never change on an intellectual level, no matter how many mods or rules there are.

I've noticed something about the BBS and I've only been here a year and post only if a topics appeals to me. I've seen many new users pop up in the last few months who have way more posts then even I have. I could be wrond with the number but I know alot of people have been joining with June of 06 sign-up dates. I just started coming to newgrounds everyday again and as I'm looking at flash in the portal I see who reviews it before me and click on it. A good margin of these reviews are from people who are 15 years of age or younger. Now I'm not saying anything bad but I've seen topics I want to post in but I'm worried about them being spam topics. I've looked at some and it seems that they start off ok but quickly become spam or quickly get off the topic that the thread began with. I know I have no say in this matter I'm just saying what I've seen in the past week on the site. I've also noticed some older topics that have been bumped for no reason. I thought when a topic was dead it should remain dead.

Nah, it's not that bad, you do get a couple of good threads and I could easily reel off a lot of intelligent and articulate users. And I do feel somewhat established here, too.
