Well.......I've only been here a few months, so I don't really have a comparison point to work with. I'll try my best to analyze this 'situation', though. Not being one for Flash, Audio, Programming, or Politics, I usually spend all my time in General. I seem to have a much more optimistic view than you, in my opinion. I tend to follow the rule of 'innocent until proven guilty'. I generally don't hate people unless they give me a good reason to. Consequently, your definition of 'retard' is likely a lot more broadened than mine. I do agree to an extent, I do see a fair few.......intellectually challenged people around here, to put it lightly.

Now, you're obviously an intelligent person and I respect that, but let's face it. You probably already know this, but complaining about the problem isn't really going to achieve much. The 'retards' by your definition aren't going to suddenly go "Shit, I guess I am a dumbass, I'd better clean up my act and be more mature!". Most of these people don't even realise that they ARE being retards. It's beyond the scope of their imagination, so to speak.

From what I gather, you don't really seem to have any intention of leaving, so my advice is to try and be more tolerant. Possibly try a more positive outlook. If anything, it'll make things easier on you, since you won't have as much hatred gnawing at your mind, and who knows, maybe you'll make some new friends you may have otherwise overlooked.

I meant for the topic maker or post maker. If a person has realised his topic is flawed He can easily delete in an effort not to get banned o.0 We need more mods

As for alts, quite often they're funny and you just need the ability to get a joke to enjoy them, like Koreaman was funny briefly and the various Pokemontrainers were funny too.

But, the Wade post did make me re-assess what I'm doing on the BBS. I've been trying to come up with more well-thought out and well put together posts. But... Sometimes a simple single word post is fun, even though it's not intellectually stimulating... I do want the BBS to be a better place, and I'm trying to fight my old habits of posting stupid single line joke threads and topics like "Do you remeber this show, lol?!".

I feel I need to add:

Newgrounds is a website full of cartoons and games, a few of which contain nudity and lots of violence. It's a 12/13 year old's paradise, and so, that's the main sort of age group you'd expect to visit. How can you hope for an intellectual forum?

I've not tired of arguing about the same subjects, like Linkin Park, drugs, religion, morality, George Bush, abortion or whatever.

Emo threads are a little different, primarily because they're really overdone. If the threads were 'Fallout Boy sucks' or 'are emo girls ugly' then perhaps there'd be room for discussion, but 'I am emo', 'my brother is emo', 'what's wrong with being emo' over and over again less so.

It was goths when I started posting, and I swear it was nowhere near as overdone.

I don't think the BBS was meant to be intellectual, but I agree, the idiocy spreads like a fireball in a room filled with hydrogen.
What should we do, then? Special forums for regulars picked by the mods? A "you can't post if your account is less than 3 months old" rule? More threads that would induce a proper discussion (without it being "the ps3 will pwn the xbox360")? What do you propose?

I suppose I agree, but what really makes the BBS fun is an occasional totally ridiculous topic, or one that is so incredibly stupid that it is immensely entertaining. I love those threads. I mean, what would we have done without "So, are we still friends"?

As for short posts, the forum can already tell you that your post has too much quoted text, so why not to little text in general. Something like 15 letters are required.

As for spelling, there could be a built in spell checker for users with trouble (or just use the Google toolbar).

As for the general intelligence of the posts, there doesn't seem to be a solution in sight at this time.

A possible answer is a crackdown-day that will come unannounced. All the mods will be informed. Their names will be hidden in the "who's online now" section. The date will be worked out so that the possible amount of mods can be active at one time. They will be allowed to ban as they see fit. Permanent bans or even account deletion, IP blocks could be used.

This is a very harsh solution that some users will deem unfair. Another flaw, is that it's fully depending on the judgment of mods. Users disagree with the decisions that they make on regular days so I am sure it would be hectic on the Ultra-Ban day.

One final solution is to hide the mods names all together. Instead of tinting them green in the who's online now area, there names could be just like all the others or possibly hidden. Still I notice the same amount of junk weather there are moderators online or off.

The last two answers would cut down on Spam. The reduction of Spam could attract more intelligent posts. I believe that it may, but most likely there will still be the same shit "not Spam but damn close to it" topics. Sorry I can't offer a sure-proof solution. Maybe more of these “the BBS is going downhill” topics will make users think before they type but it’s a long shot.

Really I think it's noob influence because when i first came to newgrounds I was pretty intellegent and tried to make sure every topic I made was at least a paragraph long. Then after reading MANY topics that were merely a sentence really influnced me as a noob.

It grew into a habit and i thought nothing of it I mean "if thier all doing it.... why shouldn't I" then I read mod topics they were paraghs long and I thought "oh god that's what I originally was I used to be smart but now i'm just one them" Then I forgot about it.

But now I feel inspired that a non mod writes like that and will try to do the same.
