Ever since Wade made that frontpage post and told us all in apocalyptic terms that 'it ends here', I've been eagerly anticipating a cyber Renaissance.

It hasn't happened, and the forums are just as bad as they have been for years, but with more threads being locked and a more encompassing definition of spam. Of course, this hasn't changed anything - threads, for instance, beginning with a single link to a news story or something on google videos no longer exist without a red tank next to them, but to assume this policy would make the place 'smarter' is ridiculous, it just makes it less cluttered and less likely to have the same thread twice - the actual user base is just as thick as it ever was.

Wade doesn't seem to have attracted any geniuses to the forum - geniuses probably don't like this place because many threads are in-depth conversations about masturbation and hentai, just like SomethingAwful picked up on, as well as the large proportion of humourless idiots who post 'fail' pictures and make awful parody threads. And epic threads called 'do you like foxes' or 'I've baked some cookies' or 'the enemy is here', which are page after page of brain-rotting garbage.

So yeah, I dunno, 40% of you I would deem retarded. And 85% I have little tolerance for and the BBS would be 'better' if they left. And I liked JonnyWang's post about Hentai even if SomethingAwful didn't (although it is a bit like 'I like Hentai, hear my roar'), but most threads about such subjects aren't very good at all. And threads specifically about youth subcultures are really fucking tired, disregarding that even I don't like emos much.

To conclude, Newgrounds attracts stupid people and the forums do even more. Anyone who knows Newgrounds at all would probably guess the general forums are full of idiots. The BBS will never be intellectual. Sometimes I am entertained by some of the more horrible posts, anyway, and we'd lose that with more intellect.

Well complaint threads are a good start.

Good points, but again...SA has no business staring down their noses at other sites with a wicked nasty superiority complex, when their entire user base was gained over time by a steady stream of free porn torrents.

The problem is that this is the internet, we have many age groups on here and anyone can gain entry into the fourms. We have ten and eleven year olds running around this place and think everything they do is funny and cool when all they do is cause spam and more headaches. But the main problem is that if we all grew smarter and only discussed things that are civalized then the joy of the newgrounds BBS that we knew would be gone and replaced. I love acting like a fool and getting in a few laughs but I know there are limits and I respect them fairly. I say the problem isn't intllect but more of a maturety level of standards.

I hate it when people say "Why can't the bbs be like the good old days" or "it used to be so much cooler". The BBS has always been the same but with different people. Yea it was probably slightly more original because all the popular/funny internet fads were funny back then but now they are overused and tiring.

I've noticed it actually get worse since that thread. I've hardly seen any topics worth posting in. I mean, it's probably not related, but I really do think it's gotten worse.

Usually there is at least 2 or 3 topics that interest me, lately there's been nothing.

Two years I've attempted to help fixing the situation... but I guess the moderators can't be there 24/7 and ban everyone who should get banned and lock / delete 75% of the threads...

There's an easy answer to the question "Why isn't this really intellectual/ interesting?"

Most of NG is formed by young, really young people. Not only in years, also in mind. So it's usual not to have anything interesting to say. Instead of that, we prefer post pure idiocy, I'm not excluding myself, just because it's easier. I recognise it, I'm a faggot most of the times.

The most interesting thing I usually see here are all those "OMG GIRLZ SAYS I ARE GAY SOLVE MY PROBLEMS D00DS", which I find stupidly funny, easily replied with "Rape her/everybody/etc"

Well, this isn't going to change. I wish I had known NG earlier, but I would have been really young if so, so I would have behaved like the average users now.

Anyway, I would love to have a more intelligent BBS...I guess I would use it in a more smart way, but it's really difficult to not surrender to idiocy. A shame, but it's true.

What person in his sane mind would leave after reading that? Most people don't realise they're the morons of this place, for they wouldn't feel as if he was talking about them.

You even might be one of them (I don't know you, but your grammar isn't exactly right). I'm not saying you are, only people who know you would know that, but do you understand where I'm going?

Though I must say that Earfetish is right, the BBS (especially General) will most likely never be intellectual due to the morons that prowl this place. If just more people would come up with more "intelligent" threads, it would make a huge difference. It will encourage people to state their opinion in an open and (not always) intelligent way. Of course you'll always have the morons that will reply with things like "fuck no fag", but those could be banned, right?
If Newgrounds woul want this, it could be possible, but it would have to happen over a huge amount of time, because getting rid of the oh so many morons here, isn't quite easy due to the fact that there are so many.

You forgot to mention the fact that there are 12 year olds signing up under the age of 18.

I'm 13 and I doubt then any of my recent posts would be deemed imature. Sure I was a n00b, but that was before I learned gramer and spelling. I don't think that its as much of age as it is maturity. And I agree with you, all of the post shouldn't be completley civilized but that dosn't mean there should be spam.

SA picked the WORST topics.They always do for Weekend Web. And their paid forums aren't all they crack it up to be either. They act as if it's keeps the retards out but in reality, even retards have creditcards.

For the rest I can vaguely agree, though I hardly think Wade is one to comment on the matter anyway. All the topics he creates end up being huge orgies of users scrambling to get his attention and be on his good side and yet he keeps creating them well aware of that fact.

Who wants the BBS to be an intellectual haven? I sure don't. If I wanted to be around a bunch of smarmy intellects who have nothing better to do than stroke their own e-penises while displaying how cultered and above-the-curve they are I'd hang out at my college's political clubs more often. All I really ask from the BBS is that everyone remembers to have a little fun and try, for at least a second, to not take it as one giant stat-fest.

I think the main point of Wade's manifesto was not that the BBS should become a giant debate club or that we should spend hours on our threads until they become finely honed hilarity, but simply to erradicate the people who post purely for the sake of posting and reel in people who will at least post with purpose. You might think it's not working, but I personally have seen it become tolerable to the point where I'm actually posting regularly again.
