Okay, let's say, hypothetically, that a white man and his familly, felt sick of living in a multicultural society, and decided to settle somewhere where only whites would be allowed. HE gathers his friends and their famillies and they head off to Utah, they build houses, irrgate water, etc. soon more white people come and the town becomes quite successful, but, when a mexican man attempts to enter, the head of the town blocks him from entrance and explains the situation while some members of the town shout racial slurs at him. THey are subsequently arrested for a hate crime.

Is that justice?

That's a tough one since you would need to examine the alternate situation where's it's hispanics or African-Americans wanting to make an independent town from the 'white US'. To me it's almost a double standard where the same situation just reversed would be justified while the original situation would not. To me all the situations should not be justified, but it's in mainstream thought to say that the alternate situations would be justified (i.e. all black universities, etc.) due to past actions.

I don't entirely know what you getting at with this topic. I know this is only hypothetical, but a community still can't attempt to start their own isolated society and make their own rules without the consent of the government. I mean what do you suggest they do, suceed Utah from the US?

It's funny that you talk about the idea of segregated town. Recently, more and more whites are moving into the DC area, and here comes the double standard. The blacks of these DC neighborhood are saying that the area is too white and losing its cultural history.. EL OH EL. So, alls fair if whites want to do the same as a lot of minority communities do the same.

Hey, my family is part of that overarching group that moved to DC itself, but like 30-40 years ago and I was born, raised, and still live in the city. Yeah it's definetly an issue especially with the genrification that's been going on since Marion Barry was bribed from running for mayor again. Ever since the African-American population has fallen from like 66-70% down to around 60% of the city and continues to fall as many sell and move out to Prince George's County the issue has arose.

But that it true, sorta like what I was getting at before with the double standards, there should be the same rules and guidelines for everyone not rules that apply only to white people because of past actions decades and centuries ago, but that's how it is now. It'll take another step and alot of time in race relations until minorieties move from being tokens and statistics that make schools and companies look good to being fully equal.

Still this topic feels kind of bogus, I mean for the love of god its 2006! Can we finaly get over the fact that some people come from different ethnic backgrounds or are we going to pick over the concepts of racism for yet another century.

I wish that was true, but unfortunetly as long as their are laws and media emphasis that don't allow equality, it will continue to be an issue. Once all the affirmative action and replaced with social-economic status, quota systems in companies are removed, and the hate crimes that go on in some rural areas cease only then will equality be nearly reached. However, with the way many mindsets are now (black, white, and other races), the only way we'll reach full equality is with time and new younger leadership in all aspects of society.

I got news for you. I am what you folks call "white" the type that needs spf 45 or better not to burn in the sun. I am from Maine the whitest of all Northern States and I have to say grow up. Racism is for the ignorant who want to live in bubbles. Trust me I know what a "white" society does without folks of other ethnicities. They find something else to discriminate. I was that other they discriminated. In Cumberland, Maine for years it was classism because there literally were no African Americans, Asian, or Hispanics.

What makes me laugh harder if it were not for the retributions handed to the Native Americans which made the quota for being Native American lower 25-50%, I would be considered a half breed. Me white as the moon in moon-lite would be a half-breed. It all depends on given factors. I am also a high respecter of culture and currently earning my Masters in Multicultural education. So I say welcome diversity and give up the need to be a "white" society. To me, a "white" world sucks and is boring so grow up!

If the state grants him a town charter or something of that nature, he is obligated by the 14th amendment to grant equal rights to ALL citizens, for the authority of any part of the union to do such a thing, in the end, is derived from our constitution and its amendments.

Well they wouldn't be arrested.

Then sued in a cival court by the mexican.

You never know...if the man was verbally assaulted, then I don't know. But if he was PHYSICALLY assaulted? BOOM jail sentence.

The problem right now is all of the quota and affirmative action. One of my cousins friends was denied entrance into MIT beacuse he was a white male. He had more qualifications that many of the non-white males and females that got in, but race kept him out. Now imagine if they told a lback person they couldnt get in like that....

All these programs do is distort reality. The most qualified people should be the ones getting in, regardless of race or sex.

The mexican could be denied to own property there and, if the whole community is against it, the he could be denied entrance on the grounds of property rights. though thats iffy. It would be a more solid legal ground if the whole community was owned by one entity (maybe a neighbours org.) and could thus rule against entrance.

No!, Theres a reason why all those people moved away from every body and now there tryin to follow them. Unfortunetly thats the way the world is today and whats goin on in this world makes people upset and want to get away from it all. And the promblem is that there will always be racism because if different cultures cant behave them selves than other cultures will get irritated and begin to hate them. Racism is here to stay.
So no, I dont believe that should be a hate crime, those people have every right to live away from the culture society and live n peace wit there own. But when that man explains to the mexican why he cant come in and still wants to come in, that is just called arrigants. No one wants to go to a place where they arent wanted in any situatuion. All this mexican did was abuse the government system of racism and wanted his way. Hes now just bein arrogant.
So the people who live in this town get frustrated and begin expressing things that were better off leaving to the selves.
Because seriously why would anyone would want to live in a town where everyone hates and the towns people will only make your life misrable. You know why because the mexican thinks he deserves special previleges of what he is and thinks he can do wat he wants but all it really is arrogants because when he was explain the situaition and still choose to ignore it.
So really the mexican is well aware of the situaion and now if still wants to live in that environment, then he should be prepared to be insulted but instead he only did this out of spite and get the people in the comunity in trouble.
