Audio question 2006-07-24 19:34:40

Would it be stealing if I downloaded a mp3 off the audio portal, put it into Audacity, remixed it using various Audio effects and moving parts around, and resubmitted it?

I'd say yes, unless you have specific permission from the original author.
This is royaltyfree to use at flash movies.
But it's still copyrighted.

Most likely ... It really depends on how much effort you put into the remix and how different that it was.

Best thing to do would be to contact the author and discuss it first - get permission - that sort of thing.

Alot of remixes I hear, are the originla song, with a couple od new effects and and extra kick here and there, but the structure is the same.

If you going to remix you should only take the tune, nothing else.

Well, its kinda wierd but its going to be a remix of the remix of Paradice on E. I thought of a way to make it sound cooler.

PM him. Best bet.

i think the standard for remixes and whatnot is that 50% of the song must be your own. You can change the lyrics (wierd al is a good example of this, however, he gets permission anyways) and call it your own. All i can say is that you should use your best judgement, and when in doubt, ask permission. For NG purposes, an email or a PM will suffice. In the real world, get it in writing before you even record it.
