It's not really better, just different. Different philosophy, different method of organization. It's much more Unix than Linux.
I prefer it. Linux is chaotic. It is "grown". BSD is designed and elegant. Chaotic growth isn't bad though and doesn't mean Linux is worse than the BSD, both have their faults and their strengths. as you can see Linux's chaos as helped it tremendously. It's part of its success.
I think you told me once that you use/ have used Debian. I invite you to try a *BSD. See if you like it.
