Full size
I don't have a skins program, I just opened the Rocketdock icon folder and edited the png image files I have that are used as the icons.
If you use Rocketdock, the icons can be downloaded (any png image will work) and put in an icons folder. You can edit them just about all you want, make ones yourself, or just pick customized ones that other people have made. I decided to just tinker with the icon pictures in Paint.net and turn them blue-ish.

I do agree that my desktop is somewhat plain. I love what you've done with our desktop. It almost makes me want to go back to Linux. What distro are you using, and how did you make your windows behave like cover flow?

I'm guessing Rocketdock is that icon bar at the bottom of your screen? What is that a downloadable add-on?

Yes.

Free, easy to use, easy to modify, small file size.

It rubs the lotion on its' skin or else it gets the hose again.

I can't answer that for him, but I know he's running the KDE Desktop Environment, which comes with plenty of distros and can be downloaded from most package managers on distros without them. I can do the cover flow as well in Ubuntu. The program we use is called "Compiz Fusion". It's the product of Beryl and Compiz combining forces for a slick compositing manager.
I think it comes standard in Ubuntu, but it may or may not be a little more difficult for Kubuntu or other KDE distros.
whats good?
I'm currently running Sabayon 3.4f
It's a stem of Gentoo, which was my first non-emulated Linux distro.
It's source based. Sabayon will install either KDE, GNOME, XFCE, or all three (what I did) for you in the installer, and leave you with a full Gentoo system.
Compiz-Fusion (The result of Compiz being forked into Beryl and eventually rejoining into one project) provides a 3d accelerated window manager with all sorts of great plugins for both eye candy and functional purposes.
My desktop changes often.
I don't think I've ever seen a unique Mac desktop.

You're not the only one that can do that.
Sabayon isn't nearly as hardcore as Gentoo BTW.
Ubuntu!
Icons from left to right
Terminal, Firefox, Pidgin, Azureus, Gimp, and Rythembox.
Higher quality, if you want the icons PM. I'll link you them.
I think I change everything around way too often.

No but Sabayon lets me have a full Gentoo install in under an hour. I don't have time to let KDE compile for a day before I can use my system, and then spend a good week re-compiling my kernel making sure I have full support for all my hardware.
But once installed, Sabayon is identical to Gentoo anyways, just bloated.

You know, Peaceblossom is so far the ONLY Ubuntu user I have respect for.
And you've continued to prove that point.
We're both on the same OS. Don't get all elitist on me.

Isn't Gentoo a different linux OS?

You can get them for pretty much any OS.
It just only comes NATIVELY with vista.

If I was going to have what is essentially Gentoo, I wouldn't want to have a bunch of extra weight associated with it. I would want to keep it very minimalistic and possibly under 200mb for the whole operating system.

Just like the Mac vs. PC vs. Linux debates, there is no superior Linux Distro. I have been using Ubuntu for long enough to know the inner workings of Linux, and only use Ubuntu because I have family members that like to think it's their PC. I would use Gentoo with Xfce if I I was the only person using my computer.
It's all personal preference.

Tee hee. I wonder why all the hate towards Ubuntu users? What makes me different?
But I do agree, Linux is Linux. If Ubuntu is easier for you, then use it. If you find Gentoo or Sabayon or PCLinuxOS or Knoppix more fun, then by all means use it. Don't feel you're superior because you put in less work.
At 3/30/08 02:41 PM, Senri wrote: Isn't Gentoo a different linux OS?
It's not really a Linux OS. It's a distribution. They're running the same kernel, and have similar commands. Try pressing Ctrl+alt+F1. That's Linux. Everything else you have is just Xorg applications for making Linux "easier".

Ubuntu is more like a PC replacement, whereas Gentoo and the like are what I would consider "true" Linux. They require maintenance, and some people take a lot of pride in that.
Yeah, so basically I'm cheating death here. I've been temporarily resurrected from a ban at the cost of some extra days just to make this one post. See you all in a week!

No, this is actually the official "Peaceblossom, RageOfOrder, and Senri discuss Linux Topic".

Haha, yup.
And I think you mean Ctrl+Alt+F2 (F2 through 6 ought to work)
Since F1 is the screen your X server is running on.
What makes you different? Simple.
You've been using Linux long enough to understand how it works. You've seen and experienced other distros and know that just because you can install Ubuntu, doesn't make you a 1337 h4x0r. A lot of Ubuntu users forget this, and are rather vocal about it.
Yea, Sabayon really defeats the purpose of Gentoo, but it's starting to evolve into it's own unique distro. It's pretty cool to watch. In the next version (3.5) they have added a new package manager and repository that is binary based. It's called Entropy.
That will make Sabayon one of the only distros in existence to include a souce based (Portage) and a binary based (Entropy) package manager by default, and have the two work perfectly together.
Question.
Does AWN dock have a physics engine like Kiba-Dock's Akamaru?
Kiba still isn't stable enough (I wish he'd just release a stable build already...) to use so I'm considering AWN.

It's definitely not physics, and the icons don't even scale in a pleasing manor. It's one of the only ones that functions both as a launcher and a place to store your applications, but it doesn't look as nice as Kiba or Cairo. Cairo may be Gnome only though you should look into it. It's probably the prettiest of the available options.
You could also try Wbar, although again, I don't know exactly how it works in KDE.

I understand this was directed towards Peaceblossom, but I'm pretty sure this was really a "Senri, shut the hell up." message.
Now, I have tried a few different Linux distros, and I simply found Ubuntu to work the best. So I stuck with it.

I was very confused when this happened.

I'll have to try those two.
