Well, I can't really compare seeing as this is the first and only forum I've been a proper member of, but here's some advice for you. See, you remind me a lot of the Vice Principal at my high school (which, for the record, was one of those uptight, high-reputation private schools). He was ALWAYS dead serious, and was the one who enforced the majority of the discipline.

When a student screwed up and acted like a douche, it was always him who did the ass-kicking, the principal (who can be equated to Tom in this case) just ran the school, made announcements in assembly and managed the public reputation. He didn't get involved with the student body much at all, except on a casual basis. Our Vice Principal was an ok guy, and was actually rather sad to see us go, but thing is, because he always enforced the discipline, he was rather unpopular.

What I'm saying is, the job of the 'down and dirty' admin is one that isn't really all that enviable, as you have to be the one that does the ass-kicking. And inevitably, that's going to make you unpopular with some users. It's just one of the trappings of the trade, so to speak. I suggest you do what my old VP did, just do your job and try not to worry about what others think of you, as there's always going to be that underlying feeling of bitterness and resentment.

Does that help a bit? =)

Wait, what were you saying about people being confused?
:p

And how is it not harder to moderate an extra forum?
I never go in the audio forum EVER. Or clubs. Moderating them would be a burden ( especialy club. delete please)

What about the programming forum? I think it goes forgotten. The only mod to really ever go in it is Afro_Ninja. So he basically moderates a whole forum by himself.

The clubs should be deleted.

But isn't it your duty, as a mod, to keep this place clean? I don't see how that would be a burden at all. If you have LESS posts in one area, then it will be easier to cut through what's crap and what's not.

Making the General forums into 3-5 different mini-forums would be perfect. You would still have the spammy general area while being able to seperate the other sections, such as sports or video games, into other forums.

Let me put it like this. Lets say you have a total of 100 threads you are to monitor. 25 of them are video game threads, 20 of them are sports threads, and the rest are general nonsense about how you tied your shoes. If you seperate the sports and video games stuff OUT of the equation by puting them into their own, easy to view and handle forums, you will EASILY be able to monitor the 55 other threads you are supposed to monitor.

I don't see how clicking an extra link is a burden at all.

Oh yeah I forgot there was a programming forum. I usually just visit the flash and general forums.

Wade, I understand your frusteration. I'm a moderator of another forum that has about 300 active users (link), and I'm sometimes tempted to tell some of the users to eat maggot shit myself (only on my forum it would come out as "eat maggot soisoisoisoi").

In fact, just recently we were dealing with some complaints from users for taking down our shoutbox. It was taken down because it was decreasing forum activity and made us vulernable to attacks via HTML. Of course, users wouldn't listen to us, and one of them started a complaint topic. In response, I said this:

"GOD, I hate it when people make threads like this.

It was removed for reasons. It caused a decrease in forum activity, which is bad. The forum is about posting, not about shouting. Also, due to it having no limit HTML-wise, it made us vulnerable to attacks. This forum and your computer could have been harmed if some asshole wanted to do the damage.

There are multiple ways to contact people from these forums. Here are a few:

1) Your intro. The purpose of the Intros forum is to get associated with the users.
2) PM.
3) AIM/other IM programs.
4) Skype. Skype is a free Internet phone service that can be found for download here. I doubt many people on this forum have it, but it's a good program to have."

So I really just try to keep my cool. As you can see in the first sentence I lost it a bit, but I got better.

I think listening to music helps deal with some anger; it calms me down and helps me think clearly.

I hope you read this, and I hope it helps. Good luck dealing with the dickheads, but I know it's nothing new; Newgrounds is full of them.

Apparently mods get points for locking threads and that is basically what makes them so strict.

I have an idea. All the club threads. Burn em. But here's a way keep the clubs. Allow something to be added to their profile that says pretty much says "This user is in [insert club name here]." I think that might work better that having a 300 page thread dedicated to a single thing or interest.

50% of all statistics are made up 90% of the time.

Iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiindeed.
But after much nagging on that in the mod lounge, I have also quit.

I don't see how clicking an extra link is a burden at all.

If we make a "video games forum", it will increase video game topics tenfold on the forums. Not to mention the threads we'll have to lock in general that should have gone in there.

As long as we don't have tools to move threads, we shouldn't get more forums.

I'm not sure who said it. I think it might actually have been wade fulp. The problem is the mods will lock any thread that breaks the rules which is usually a good thing but some threads just break one rule and can be a very popular thread and then it is deleted of locked because it broke 1 rule and the mod wants his/her points.

Making strong statements is a bit different then the swear-filled, and overall over-reacting sounding posts that a lot of your posts sound like they're comming out as. You don't need to swear like a drunken sailor to make your point go across.
