dude(s), chicks...whatever
its come to my attention that america's youth is brainwashed with so much propaganda...its not even funny.
we had some college chcik come into our english class and basically tell us "IF YOU DONT GO TO COLLEGE YOU WILL EQUAL TO NOTHIN IN THE WORLD"
and thats not the worst part... the idiots beleived her.
now im not saying that college isnt helpful or anything... but EQUAL TO NOTHING?! (not her exact words) thats complete and utter bullshit.
now i was talkin to my friend..and hes like.. dude... dan you have to go to college... (i plan to join the armed forces .. hopefully a marine... Hoo Rah ;) ) hes a rich kid..and im kinda middle class..not rich..not poor. and what he was tellin me was.. IF YOU DONT GO TO COLLEGE YOU WILL EQUAL TO NOTHING.
i asked him... hey, what will college do for you? no answer.
now im not smart, nor do i claim to be. please tell me if you agree with me... disagree.. but please dont just say FUC YOIU!....i wanna hear your opinions

olskoo's post reminds me of a scene from mr. deeds, sandler buys the bikes off the kids and one kid says he is going to quit school, and there is a homeless guy near them and he says "SCHOOL IS FOR FOOLS! I QUIT AND LOOK AT ME!"
not that you are homless olskoo.
you don't know if i'm joking or not

he was told the prophecy of xbox's release, and he took a risk, abandoned life as he knew it, and lived behind walmart waiting many many years.

It all depends on what you want to get out of it. Some people can go to college and not learn a damn thing, but still say it was one of the best experiences of their lives. Some can go and be miserable but learn a lot, and later apply that to whatever job they go for.
Saying that if you don't complete college or highschool you will amount to nothing is utter bullshit. They're meant to prepare you for the rest of your life...some people don't want it, and some just don't need it.

I'll either go to college or film school. Or if I don't even graduate high school, I'll just become an XBOX loving programmer and all will be happy.

And example of some of the sad ways of the world these days.
And I'm sick of people always saying things like "if you don't go to college you will never get a decent job" blah blah etc etc. But people don't realise that further education isn't for everyone.
There is always alot of pressure on people from others.
And sorry if that was little to do with the initial topic but hey, I've said it now.

Well, that's a complicated subject.
You can go to college, bust your ass, make straight A's, join a few clubs. Maybe join a frat. You will make connections there with faculty and students. You will probably do very well financially afterwards.
You can go to college, learn how to think in new ways. Maybe do really well and go to grad school. Teach other people how to think.
You can go to college, and recognize that it is nothing but learning a skillset that will prepare you for a lovely middle class existence. Likely working out of a cubicle every day. You will learn to think like everyone else in middle America.
You can go to college, and then become a professional after going through more expensive schooling. And make alot of money.
You can go to college, make some really good friends, party alot. And not do much with your education afterwards. Or realize that it is another step in your life, maybe towards some really eye opening conclusions.
Just my thoughts on the subject.

Valid points, but alot of people feel pressured by society to go on to further education. They may not want to but their teachers are all like "he's bright and should go to university" then they have their parents expecting them to go.
There's just too much pressure in society these days.

Everything is geared towards us being good little consumers. Otherwise THEY will make sure YOU will be broke the rest of your life if YOU do not follow THEIR rules.

It's true. Too true. Take it from me. I've been down (and currently reside upon) the poor avenue. I couldn't have said it better.
