Instead of just checking a box that confirms that a user has read the rules, direct him/her to the rules page when he first tries to post. He/she might still not read the rules, but at least it'll decrease the number of these spam topics. Maybe. I don't know, I'm just trying to be helpful.
That would be a good idea. A lot of people do just over look the rules because they're eager to post, but redirecting them to the rules page could add some incentive to read at least parts of the rules. They might just skim through, or even skip it and post any way, but it would still help new people from spamming so much. As for the people that make random alts to try and be funny... well, we can only hope they go back to their special ed. classes once summer is over...

Its my idea from four or six months ago -_-
I talked to liljim or wade about it and they said it was the users fault if they weren't going to read the rules.
True. But what Wade wants is that thses topics wont be created in the first place. To get rid of all the extra work for mods and admins. That's what this is about, not about feeling sorry for those who got banned.

Im not sure it's the ammount of mods that matters, they just need to be more strict and not let people get away with small offenses.
Also Wade if you want the NG BBS to be like the somethingawful forums, which it appears you do judging by your news thread and this thread etc.. it's never going to happen not with a site that has so much content that attacts mainly kids. And forums that don't cost anything to join.

Which was exactly my point. I said exactly the same things you said and look where we are... anyway, I'm trying to steal glory or anything, its just another example of the repetativeness of this place to me.
Religion Topics
Game Topics
I Got Something Topics
Sex/Don't know what sex is topics
etc.

Yeah, well back then maybe change wasn't so intresting. Hopefully something could be worked over, but I must say that I prefer the box checking for myself, but that doesn't mean it'd be more effective.
However, I now bow to you oh under rated man of ideas.

Actually, some Mods aren't on a lot, which gives spammers the oppertunity to make a spammy thread. The thread could fall to the depths of the 2nd page and never be seen again. That lets the spammer do more spamming.

Possibly longer bans cause a child won't learn unless you use hard discipline.

It would be a long shot especially with the kind you are talking about telling their friends about the site and most likely their friends are just like them in a sense or two but i believe it can be pulled of to make these forums for the better, just have faith.

A lot of the mods are joining in on the spamming because they don't fear a ban as much as the regular members. Some of them don't even come on any more! I think the two I see the most on right now (from whenever I'm on) Is Zerok and Bigbadron, and they usually do their job. Everyone else I've seen is on occassionally (I apologize to the mods that do still come a lot, because I'm not on through out the entire day to see, lol...)
Also, not only is the BBS filled with crap, but so are the portals. What happened to creativity and originality? Sure, there are a lot of good entries, but it's annoying to see those "omg! my first flash rate 5!" submissions... You know, those flash animations that go 3 frames per second and have sticks fighting until it says "LOL END!"?

Not entirely.
I mean, early on in the morning, when users are browsing the forums, not many moderators are on. Therefore, spam gets through. That's not good, so something like around the clock moderating would be nice. The number of mods we have now is okay, but to really get rid of the spam, we need more.

I never said I wanted the NG BBS to be like somethingawful's forums. We would just like to see things better than they currently are. This isn't just me wanting this, this is a lot of people. I'm simply representing the views of many. If the NG BBS is a 1 on a scale from 1 to 10 and somethingawful's forums are a 10, maybe we could get the NG BBS up to a 4 or 5 some day.

Well i can live with repetetiveness, if it's thought out well. Not these masses of ''whats ur fav color?'' But it seemse like it's little we can do, though. Wade can ban, delete, and make topics like these, but not much more.

True there aren't always mods browsing the BBS, maby a few new mods would be nice perhaps users who are on the BBS alot who make good posts, but aren't necessary recognised or well known.

I agree, however alot of the spam comes from alt accounts, which is kind of hard to combat.

I'm not saying the forums won't improve, they probably will. It possible to get more mods, tell them to ban more people but it's impossible to select the type of users who browse the forum and unfortunately for NG it's mainly idiots.

I'm not sure how effective this crackdown will be, but you guys are definitely stepping in the right direction from what I've seen.
And anyway, I don't think I will be affected by this much, if at all. The last time I was banned was about 3-4 months ago I think...that was through the destroy function. All that really needs to be done now is to add more mods, which I'm sure you're going to do soon.

I notice that whenever i'm on theres at least one mod around, so it's either a lack of mods at peak times or simple mods not being bad-ass enough.

There is mostly a lack of moderators at peak times (I got about 100 screen shots of the NG BBS when it's without moderators) but also a lack of judgement from some of those who browse but although not too often.

I thank you for doing this, Wade.
The amount of shit topics has been going up.
For people saying "Oh what about the oh snap topics?" Just shut up.
I enjoy the pictures Wade takes. One time I was offended by the pictures (dead mice), and I posted my opinion. It turned into a great debate which is always fun.
