Obviously a lot of people see this as just Wade being a dictator, etc. I didn't just come on here and decide out of the blue this had to be done. This is a result of hearing complaints about the forums from respected users, mods, other NG Staff (Tom, etc), about how our forums are going to shit.

I decided that it was time to carry out everyone's wishes and try to turn things around.

The spammers thing the spam is fun, but all this non-sense scares away more intelligent and mature posters. Many of these people don't want to be associated with the crap that is on these forums. If we clean this place up many people feel it would start attracting more mature users, such as some of the better Flash artists, etc.

Right now the NG forums are known as a big cluster fuck and a joke to many in the online community. That's not something Tom or any of us really want. We would like to see the forums get cleaned up and be used by more people.

Hey, I wanted to complain. But I feared I would get yelled at.

But I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so.

Also, is "What games should I get?" considered spam?

what are these threads, spam or not?

The firs two are utter shit, but the 3rd is okay. The first 2 are just posting some random question, they don't have any content. There is no story there. It would have been better if the topic starter for the "Hottest day" went into more detail about where he lives, how hot it is, what he's doing to beat the heat, etc.

Then the other one abotu reincarnation is just asking people what they think, but he offers no view of his own.

The 3rd one actually goes into some detail about whatever he's talking about.

I'm thinking that when all the new peeps get modded there will be a violent shitstorms followed by the leaving of many loyal BBS regulars. Now I understand that from your perspective this not a major problem because we're the resource hogs but I think a lot of artists come and STAY because of the BBS.

And what the rest of the online community thinks? Who cares? There are a million and one forums out there that are bigger shitetraps than this BBS.

I don't believe that those are spam. Spam is completely random and is only meant to clog up the forums. For example, a topic called "Do you like Ice Cream?" with a message saying "I DO!" Would be considered spam. Most of the time, you can tell if a message is spam or not by how long the message is. An exception is when the message includes only a link that is supposed to be the topic of the Subject.

Over repeated subjects are also considered spam.

If you want intelligent posts, go to the Political section.
The general thread is for a laugh, and the mods are doing their job fine at the moment. Not much need for a massive onslaught of mods deleting threads at sight.

I heavily disagree with this statement. Spam is spam and isn't actually needed in any respect. The spam wade is talking about is the useless kind that we see day in and day out in 25 of the 30 front page topics which generally have no purpose other than the author felt the need to make a topic. I myself have been guilty of this at times, though I generally strive to find something interesting to make it about instead of talking about the pickles on my sandwhich, or taking pictures of me holding a two liter bottle of pop and emptying it by magic...

If the users here were of the intelligent sort there are any number of topics that weren't political or about flash or about audio that could be held in the general section. Several of them come up everynow and then. The fact remains that it is hard to have any semblance of originality in a place like this and most people would know it if it bit them in the ass. I don't really blame people for being uninteresting, but I do agree that talking about how much you like the color green is a little uneeded and boring.

Everything here is repetitive. I know this topic will get lots and lots, probably 30 pages of responses and this will all be drowned out in the dismal crashing of bbs stupidity and people trying to be helpful or at least attain modship. You name one topic about something that isn't a current event and I almost guarantee I can find a similar topic on the bbs. Even this one is nothing new, it just came from Wade this time.

It's all about content. Simply asking "What games should I get?" is just wasting people's time. If you say "Looking for a new game" and then go into detail about what system you want the game for, what kind of games you like, what kind of game you are looking for, etc, that's more acceptable.

It's the same on the knife site I go to. People put "I want a new knife, any recommendations?" and the topic starter gets a bunch of shit for not providing details like "How much do you want to spend?" and "What do you want to use the knife for?" and "How large of a blade do you want?" etc.

The General Forum has been starting turning shit in beggining 2005, when we got a new people wave, 13 years old people and morons from all around the internet.

I decided that it was time to carry out everyone's wishes and try to turn things around.

That would be really great, and about time :) How many times has it been said... And now some of the mature, respected and fun users are leaving... Myself I left for a couple of months... needed a break from the spam and shit happening on the General Forums...

Exactly. That's 100% true, and I completely agree with it. That's probably why all the new users we get are usually some retarded kids that thinks they can spam the BBS because it's wide and Moderators can't really be everywhere.

Right now the NG forums are known as a big cluster fuck and a joke to many in the online community. That's not something Tom or any of us really want. We would like to see the forums get cleaned up and be used by more people.

Well... if they get cleaned, we will probably lose a lot of members, but it wouldn't actually be a big loss... And hopefully a new wave of new and different users could join Newgrounds, and not be flooded with spam and flame when they post for the first time.

I also wonder, if a person is bored and goes on Newgrounds and start a topic like
"I am bored, tell me a game I can play now"
Is that consired as spam? Cause I see that more often on the BBS now.

Yeah! Because 15 year-olds making thousands of Pro-Communism threads is going to be filled with plenty of intelligent posts. Unlike them, I've actually lived under the thumb of a Communist regime. The only person who would consider Communism to be a utopia would be a masochist!

It's also pretty damn sad that with seeing so much utter bullshit that you can't really trust a low level low posting new BBS poster to be intelligent and mature about stuff since we seen so much nonsense by them in the past and present.

I know there will be people on both sides of this issue. However, those who want to see these forums improve need to put in extra effort to start quality threads, post quality replies, etc. Over time we will hopefully see more quality threads, and less spam threads. Over time if we continue on this path the spam or crappy topics will beging to stick out more and can be caught and removed more quickly. Users will learn what is and isn't acceptable.

Right now it's painfully obvious that to many users are starting to many new topics just for the sake of making a topic and getting attention, raising their post count, etc. it would be better to have less new topics and more activity in existing topics that are well though out. Rather than a flood of new topics with a few stupid replies in each.

In order for something to be considered not spam, you really just need a long descriptive message. It really isn't all that hard, unless you have no hands and type with your forehead...

If you went to a topic with a subject "Where do I go from here?" and reply with "p0psikls!" that would also be considered spam, because that is clogging up the topic. (At least I'm pretty sure it is)

So simply don't post overly post topics, don't post short pointless messages, and don't reply in a spam thread.

Exactly, what i think, I always post either random or insightful stuff on the General, but whenever I go out to Wi/Ht? or Political that's when I get serious and actually think out my statements and how it's going to be perceived

And Wade, who would think that NG forums are "some clusterfuck"? First off I've been to alot of forums and the BBS is by far the most easy on the eyes, most idoits online base a forum on such a simple thing as that. Most other forums are ugly, easy to get lost in, lack pages, and worst off have about 20+ topics (Flash,Wi/Ht?,General, etc.)
BBS is more organized, is the overall

Everywhere except general is filled with intelligent post and threads
If ever anyone sadi they didn't like NG BBS how would they be able to make a good argument? Jealousy is most likely a main factor.
