He wouldn't want to have your respect just for being in a user that has high stats' story.
statswhore ahem wut?
True, but the doctor is also a good judge of character, so the fact that i'm in his story does reflect something or other. But I wouldn't want my appearance in someone else's fictional story to be the only thing that gets me noticed. :/

All this stuff is a little more on the surface in Politics, because the users there are much more open to taking things seriously.
Yeah. There was a topic made earlier today about the internet being called toobs. In the politics forum it got serious answers and a bunch of comments that made sence. In the general it was taken as a joke and everyone tried to be funny. Two different ideas of what posting should be in two different areas of the same forum.
Originally, I came to the NG forums soley to whore out my audio. Only the politics section interested me at that time. Technically, whoring out my audio is the only reason I'm still here.
I need help your cause then and listen to some audio later... I never really looked into your submissions before.
I've met lots of really cool people on NG, and some of them I've even gotten the chance to party with in real life. Honestly, I believe NG is something stable in a time of extreme socio-economic upheaval, when people are too busy to really make deep personal connections with one another.
I agree with that to an extent, I just wouldn't call these forums "stable." It definatly is easier to approach someone on the net due to the anonimity and talk about whatever you want, but things shift a lot depending on what is going on. I suppose it also all depends on who you talk to and what your aims are here.
Plus, NG keeps me young. On the long term, the ideas that seem so repetitive on NG really ARE fresh and new, we're all just so accustomed to them we don't realize just how cutting edge all this really is. NG helps me understand the general feeling of people all over the world, and that's something that traditional media could never do for me.
I agree with the last bit. I often see things crop up here before they do in real life, and I've even used the bbs to help me realize how to approach my flash work when I do it. I've set up a game testing group for my next flash project for instance. And a lot of the trends hit real life too... the owls did briefly amoung my friends who barely use the internet and we all saw what happened with Chuck Norris.
The cycles I was talking about though are more specifically the cropping up of, "this place isn't intelligent enough!" or "why religion is stupid" or even the console war topics. While they evolve slightly as new information or different people come into the conversations, they remain essentially the same and have similar conclusions. A forum like politics changes more than the general simply because it is based in modern happenings and current events instead of what people think is funny or controversal.
