I am in for it. I can write a class for pages and template class...
We just need to organize it all and stuff.

Yeah, that's pretty good. We should really start it up again. We were going to call it like the programming crew, and make it a tutorial site.

Even make it so when they submit a PHP tutorial to that site it will notify an admin and then direct them to a post in the PHP: Main and it will actually be a post where they put a title, and content being their posts. Or with PHP fill out a post form already when they get to the page?

If so, I already have a domain, and a template for a program called sedito thanks to Zach Dowd that we can use. And if I need to, I can make it work for any site.

Yeah, I think it'd be a cool idea to make a tutorial site, but as it has been mentionned above, we would have to ask every authors. But I think that most of the tutorial were written by a small group of people, and not by thousands of different authors. And I think they would give you their permission to use them. I'm not sure though :P

And another problem is that there's already lots of websites providing such tutorials. This one should have something special to make it better then the others.

We were talking about a tutorial site for a LONG time, just not what you said.

Chill out. There has to be some kind of rule, x number of bans and you're out.

Anyway, I never said it was stupid. It's just not practical. We were looking to make a seperate site. Not just a web based PHP: Main.

Honestly by the description he gave, I didn't 100% understand what it was for.

Its not so much a main thread, as a Useful Links thread.
If i were you i would create it again, and make it something like this (http://www.newground../topic.php?id=36998

Here's the thing

Java, C++, and php main were all created out of need. As in, there were people coming to the programming forum and asking questions that related to these topics often. They are more for the help of people not familiar with the programming forum.

A links:main however, wouldn't get much attention. If someone needs a specific link to something, chances are they're not going to dig through a links:main list trying to find what they want. Instead they're going to post a topic about it anyway, defeating the purpose of a links:main.

I'm not sure what to think about it...
i mean, it would seem like a good idea, if it could become organized and get good sources.

Afro_Ninja asked for comments on links: Main. No reason to say were going off-topic. This topic is just for discussion so no reason we can't include discussion for possible new Mains, like we did here.

Just a quick question to anyone.
Is there a .txt version of this list anywhere, like there is for most of the other Main tutorials ?
Cheers.

If people want, I can host the text version on my site.

Now I have to go!!

I've been thinking about this for a little while, and I don't think the author's name should be a link.

For one, it's really decreasing the number of characters you can have in the post.

Two, the supporter list is at the bottom, with a link to their sites...so why is it needed?

ditto. It doesn't stand out as much, and looks uglier. I don't like it. Just leave the authors' links at the bottom.

Here's why. If it wasn't for tutorial authors, there would be no PHP: Main. A tutorial author should NOT have to have a link to PHP: Main in their sig to get a link to their website.

yea, just add a list of Authors and their links or something. Wouldn't that be more profient? Yea, it takes up space, but still, the links look ugly and stand out too much. Sometimes, when looking through it, i can't find a descent tutorial because i get a headache with all the links.

OK, that's a valid point.

I need to hear more opinions before be change it though. Some more ideas would be great.

Also, IMPORTANT. I've seen all this talk about links main and resources threads. I feel I've neglected this part. I think PHP: Main should have links to good PHP resources, like AS: Main has to good ActionScript resources. What are your thoughts on this?

I know what you mean, I've actually been trying to come up with a good tutorial or links thread for that section, but it's alot harder for PHP than it is for AS.

Maybe that section will always just be small.

Yeah, I agree. I mean I was just thinking some sites like phpfreaks.com, php.net, hotscripts.com php section, sites like that.

Again, I'm just brainstorming.

At 8/1/06 04:42 PM, Plakat wrote: I made one, but it got locked without a chance.

Mabey I could just write one up for PHP: Main right in the Main thread? Since I was the one who really wanted to do it... I figure I should take rights, and me and WN can put it all together since he wants part of the action or did I read the post wrong.

What I'm saying is just an additional category within PHP: Main of good PHP resources. If some people would like to compile a nice compact list, I think it would fit in well with PHP: Main ebcause most of the people are looking for more ways to expand their PHP knowledge.

Response to Php: Main - Discussion Thread 2006-08-03 05:15:01

Hey guys.

I'd like to start compiling some PHP resource sites for inclusion in a category within PHP: Main called helpful resources like AS: Main contains.

So far my picks are:
php.net
phpfreaks.com

But I know there are MANY more, so please let me know what else to include.

Thanks!

Users get a form to fill in and then get a unique referal link.
The affiliates are ordered by the amount of hits they bring in.
