Because Microsoft won't give me a new CD key after I lost my old one (Makes me mad, it was three years and three house moves since I bought it... I have photo proof ot the original CD, original receipt and the original manual!!! ) I've found that I can buy either XP Pro or XP pro 64 for under £100.

I have a new 3.8ghz 64bit P4 Dual processor thingy. the motherboard obviously supports 64bit.

Will my games and chat programs and so on still work on XP 64?

Is it faster? IE does it make better use of the P 4 D processor?

Thanks for your help.

Bump

I'll even admit to being better in the kitchen that with a computer if it'll get someone to answer the question simply so I can understand.

Wrong forum. Ask this in the Help forum. More people there have a tendancy to know what they're talking about, and you dont get spammers there either.

I wouldnt venure into the 64bit arena just yet. Driver suport for most things is still lacking...so my advice to you is to get reg pro. 64 bit's more trouble than its worth.

He's right though, I suppose I am just too used to general.

Maybe I'll wait for Vista then and see if I can somehow get MS to give me my CD key. There should be a law against them stopping people using software they purchased legally.

I never understood MS product activation method. I mean whats wrong with putting the damn cd key on the case? And why do you have to have the sticker on you pc case? I mean does MS cheak for its presance? "You dont have the sticker on your case so were confiscating oyur copy of windows"
