Who remember's Barcode Battler?

I found this old manual for it when routing through some boxes, i remember there was supposed to be some cards and a machine for it, but i was too young to remember it, all i do remember was the l33t pictures in the manual of the monsters.

Just asking if anyone could explain what the hell this thing actually was, the manual says it was made in 1991.

Then 'Scannerz' came along and kids were molesting tins and packets from far and wide in order to obtain these bizarre monsters that they would then battle their friends with in a terrible combat system in order to gain the social higherarchy and boast about it.

yes, I DID have one.

yeah i had one but it was deeply flawed first of all you could scan the barcode more then once so it was pretty pointless and it takes like forever to get a friggin monster...

I still have one in its original box. I bought it from the store formerly known as Pic-N-Save several years ago, but it was only a couple of months after it was released in the US. It was an immediate failure so it quickly went to the closeout stores.
I remember cutting labels off of boxes and cans and taping them onto index cards so I could scan them through the battler. I even tried making my own barcodes (this is before barcode generators existed on the internet). The gameplay however was awful; it wasn't worth the discount price I paid for it. It quickly ended up in my closet with all the other toys I never played with.

i got a 'scannerz' for christmas a few years ago... i have NEVER used it
