So I've been listening to Rush Limbaugh and crew on my AM radio while driving to school, and I'm getting tired of hearing them calling anti-war people america hating, anti-american, anti-democracy people. What I don't understand is what do they define as American for someone to be anti-american for protesting against a war. Thoughts? I've come to American being "Supporting the autonomy of America and all actions that further it" which is why they're all anti UN and such.

I don't think there's a singular definition of "American". It encompasses all that is written in the constitution. Limbaugh is wrong, though. Those who protest the war are not Un-American. If anything, they are what America is. The freedom to gather and express a viewpoint against what the popular view is.

I don't like the phrase American, but I use it often. America is not a country, it's two continents, there's a country called the United States, which is IN America. That always bothered me...

Alright...then what makes someone "Un-unitedstates-ian"...or for that matter Unitedstates-ian...see that's why we use "American", because unitedstates-ian sounds really stupid...

The definition of american has changed alot since this place was founded
first it was a pesonwho deedicated there live to protecting and serving their country in any and every way possible
after we had half our states it was some one who pledged loyalty to the u.s. and wasnt a traitor (what a change)
now an american is anyone who is born in this god forsaken land considering the fact that all of the real "americans" are over there in iraq while we are over here only cussing out a nation far greater than us. honestly how many people have you guys heard say "i hope we take out suddam." its not excactly a stroll in the park to take him out. if we take him out he is bound to do something to the u.s. so why dont we do what we originally were supposed to do.FIND BIN LADEN AND BRING HIM TO "JUSTICE"
(53 pop ups were in the way while making this long opinion)

Bin who? Oh, the guy we went for BEFORE Saddam! That guy who's still out there in caves with his shoulder-mounted rocket launchers and herds of psychotic militants ready to play a game of Martyr.

the actual definition f american is one who lives on the one of the two american continents. that would make canadians americans.
but in the sense that you're talking in, i define american as holding american citizenship, nothing more.

Americans are people born in a America, the United States by custom.
Not entirely. An American is defined as a person who's dwelling is withing America. A spanish person can move here and call himself an American.

This would be perfectly fine except that you have a lot of people out there with American flag stickers on their SUV's preaching about how good war is and how American they are because they think so.

Everyone is American! It's a state of mind! Just put security in the fact that patriotism isn't the singular definition of an American. Or a United States-ian...or whatever we've decided on to be blisteringly politically correct.

I do not think Americans exist. No one is willing to fight for their country. We have all grown weak and over time cowards. Not like our great grandfathers. Who had a reason to fight, their freedom. But now we take all of that for granted.

I'm sorry...
I agree, the meaning of American has changed since this country was first created. And I'm speaking in terms of "United States", not North and South America.
Back in the day, to be "American" was standing up and fighting for what was right. To do the right thing. The creators of this country and to fight with their backs to the wall to get more freedoms in our country.
Now, freedom of speech is irrelivant. If you don't agree with the mass, then you're un-american. It's sad, considring that people gave their lives for our freedoms, and pig headed people will alienate others who don't have the same views.

Hey at least sexism is alive and kicking.
Stupid Americans, too bad you didn't have any strong great grandmothers to beat some sense into you.

No one is willing to fight for their country.
that has nothing to do with being american.
We have all grown weak and over time cowards.
being strong and brave aren't necessary qualities of americans.
Not like our great grandfathers. Who had a reason to fight, their freedom. But now we take all of that for granted.
that has nothing to do with wether or not a person is american.
