Well, with the recent events in lebanon with the whole israel invades lebanon thing. I believe we are heading towards a world war three.
Predictions - Recent bombing of train in india/pakistan -Israel attacks lebanon -if Israel attacks Syria, Iran attacks Israel. -In turn USA attacks Iran, Syria, Lebanon -In turn all arab countries fight back -EU helps (don't know which side) -North Korea Bombs Japan -World War Three

There have been fights and battles in the Mid East because of Israel since the end of World War II. I don't think this will be the start of a MAJOR conflict. ...But it will be big for those countries nearby.
Just my prediction.

Even in an ideological standoff, like the Cold War, they were never launched.
Nukes exist as a deterent. It creates the fear to attack. So both sides arm each other - neither will launch an attack from fear of destruction of itself.

I doubt the US would get involved very deeply because their already in Iraq, and if they pull out the the Arab countries will invade Iraq again. And if they send more troops Lebanon, then they will be too spread out and easy prey for suicide bombers and the like. But then again the US might, becuase they'll do anything for oil.
