If I did 5 sets of 50 sit-ups a day, would it affect me differently than if I did 250 in a row?

I think if you did 250 sets straight that would probably hurt you. I really thing you should just do the 5 sets but if it doesnt really bother you just do 60 reps with 5 sets.

Sorry for the double post. If you want to get abs I suggest eating healthier because you will not get abs from doing sit ups. It doesnt matter how many you do. Its more about your diet.

No it hurts, like a bitch. I'm just wondering if it does anything different physically.

I've been told various things.

If you just eat and sit on your ass, you will get fat.
If you're not getting fat, that means you'll just be really thin and be one of those people who go "I can't put any weight on! I eat, like A LOT, like TWICE A DAY, ONE HAMBURGER and one apple, but I don't gain weight!!!"

Bodybuilders eat a LOT and excercise a LOT. That's how you make muscle.

Erm, the 250 in a row would probably increases your muscle more, because its working through the pain that builds the muscle. Or something along those lines, I'm not honestly that fit myself.
Maybe the NG Gym would know?

You know what you wanna do with that, right? You wanna put a banging donk on it!

I have the same problem... I do 360 sit-ups, two sets of 180.

Virgin Lungs told me it was stupid, that I should do it in smaller sets. I did this for a week, my abs faded away. Im my opinion you should do the 250 in a row.

Try also doing short sit-ups, those are awesome.

Did you say your abs faded away. If you want abs just change your diet. It all about eating healthy, and sit ups would hurt any. But do 50 reps of 5. Trust me it will work.

Yes... the pain fades away. But you are left with the horrible feeling of wasted time. Doing all my ab rutine takes me about 1.30 hours...

Also, you have to try other exercises for your abs, eventually they wont respond very good to the workout. You need a couple of exercises.

I do 360 sit-ups (two sets of 180)
600 short sit-ups (two sets of 300)
And 120 legg rises (like the captains chair but in the floor)

This is a complete rutine. Only doing sit-ups wont give you a 6-pack.

Also, you need to feel pain, if there is no pain, then your muscles are not getting trained correctly. I hope I helped :D

250 in a row would be more effecient cause you dont stop but 5 sets you stop, so yea.

Well, I doubt that you could do a non-stop set of 250 without stopping. At least, if you're using the proper form. The sets of 50 would be safer and more practical, and would probably result in better muscle production. If that's too easy, try switching to 4 sets of 75.

I sometimes spend all day on the computer, lmao.

Kay.

Sounds homosexual.

That doesn't sound accurate in any medical terms.

I got to about 180 and went HOLY JESUS FUCK.

Ummm.... none?

All the PE teachers I've had through middle school and High school all have said sit up's barely do shit for your abs, and if you actively do them your back WILL be destroyed by the time you're older.

I sugguest you do crunches. That's the norm in school P.E's today. They do about as much for your abs as sit-ups, but you can easily do double as many. I know for a fact I can do about 30 sit-ups, thats it, but doing 100 crunches is nothing.

Hahahahahaha, LiveCorpse is dead. Good Riddance.

What I really ment is that you should feel that burn in your abs... Not pain, but the feeling that they are tired and on fire.

If you feel real pain then you are doing something bad.

Your abs didn't fade away, they were just swolen from overdoing reps. Go with smaller sets throughout the day.

That's because you did it wrong. You should be doing shorter sets with similar fatigue. As in, you should be adding weight. It's like doing 250 bicep curls with 5 pound weights. When someone says you should be doing less reps, what they really mean is more weight.

Are you god damn crazy ? :P

Adding weight ? Never, my spine would go down the shitter. I`ve always had problems with it, adding weight would make me crippled.

I`ll stay with what works for me.

What exactly as a crunch?

I looked it up and it seems you just lift your shoulder blades off the ground and sit in that position for a second. Correct?

No, I know plenty of people (who arn't fat) and have to do 500 sit ups a day and STILL don't have a six pack...so do more then 250.

Well, you could at least be adding weight to the leg raises.

When I do lying leg raises, I generally use a dumbbell handle loaded to 45 or 50 pounds.

You could use an inclined bench to add resistance to your situps.

I agree, 250 at once would be bad for you. You could probably do some pretty bad damage that way. Just go with 5 sets of 50.

Yes, because it's exponential to an extent.
