I still can't understand why they would do that. A similar incident just recently happened in Gaza resulting in Israeli airstrikes and artillary strikes and now Hesbullah goes ahead and does the same thing...it's like they're blind or something. They're really asking for it.

I'll agree that it's provocative and that it's probably the dumbest imaginable thing to do if peace in the Middle East in the final goal, but it's too early to say something about it until the Israeli reaction becomes public. But yeah, if Lebanon is getting invaded this could turn really ugly.

As far as I'm aware Hezbollah doesn't represent the Lebanese government, so wouldn't invading Lebannon be a little... unfair?

Trust me, here is Israel conscription is a must, we all have friends in the army, and my friends in the army tell me that there will be severe reaction.

Are Lebanon taking any steps to stop Hizbullah from taking its actions? Attacking Israeli borders and such?

Isreal are stretched pretty thin just now, so I'm expecting a surprise attack from a couple of arab nations. Again.

I find it very interesting that when there is a bomb attack that harms civilians people decry the lack of humanity on the part of the aggressors and claim that this justifies severe reprisals. When these same groups follow the "rules of war" and aim their attacks at military targets/soldiers it is considered an act of war and severe reprisals follow. It seems to me that the use of both these arguments requires hypocrisy and is pretty much use apologism for Israel's disgusting record.

I fail to see why everyone is getting ina fuss over 2 soldiers ( 3 if you count the one the palestinians have).

They are only 3 people. Yes, it is sad that 3 families will end up grieving for the death of a member, but invading another country jsut to rescue two or three grunts? That's a HUGE over reaction.

Search and rescue missions are fine, providing they do it by using intelligence and then striking against the people that are holding them. Invading another country and destroying things left right and centre to try and intimidate them into giving the soldiers back however, is not a good way to get them back.

Israel has Mossad for fucks sake! They're supposed to be the best secret service in the world so why don't they use them to find their soldiers? It would be more effective, probably quicker, and it also has the added bonus of not pissing off the rest of the arab world( and some of the non arab world as well).

They are probably looking at it this way. Certain groups of people feel like they have found a new way to piss off Israel. Israel needs to show them that these actions will have severe concequences so that they don't continue the kidnappings on a larger scale.

Yes, because we all know that the Israeli invasion of Gaza did so much to dissuade Hezzbolah, preventing the current conflict with lebanon. Israel has a nasty habit of overreacting to events, thus further pissing off their adveraries. Does everyone honestly believe Hezbollah was really just stupid?

I can at this point only speculate as to two possible reasons as to why Hezbollah did this. The first reason is that Hezbollah figured Israel was too bogged down in Gaza to be able to respond, and figured now was a good time to strike. The second reason may be that they planned on Isreal overreacting, and seeing how the world is reacting to Gaza, figured that they could generate more bad PR for Isreal by triggering an invasion of Lebanon, and the Isreali's are playing right into their hand.
