The Geography Department at my school had organised a cycling trip for today, which was 26 miles long. I've been twice before and it was aways a piece of piss. This time it wasn't. We took a different route this time, the first 13 miles went by dead easy. I then found out, it's because it was slightly downhill... Which meant when we turned back, we had to cycle 13 miles uphill >:(

I've never experienced quite a pain in my life... My thighs burned so much for the most part. Always so sore and tense it was agony. Anyway the point is, 3 and 4 years ago, the last times i'd gone, I hadn't struggled in the slightest. This made me and a few mates realise that now, most of the time all we do is sit at home, eat shit food and watch TV or whatever. Now we're older we don't go outside anywhere near as much as we used to, and quite frankly it's taken its toll.

Any of you recently realised you've turned into a lazy bastard >:(?

Discuss.

I went on a 38.6 mile 50 mile hike. This was becuase the guy who planned this messed up and forgot a day.

But you think you are in pain from that bike ride? Try going downhill on jagged rocks at 30 MPH with a shitty suspension system. I did this yesterday, now I am sore and have a headache from violent shaking. But on the last run down Killington, I borrowed my friend's dad's 2004 Kona Stinky. Much better than my 2001 K2 Razorback 4.0, the Kona is actually for downhill mountain biking.

I'm finding that I'm probably in the best physical condition of my life.

I recently did a 6.6km run without any problems, and felt confident that I probably could have done another lap to make it 9.9km.

However, this is only after I had a little bit of a realization, somewhat similiar to yours and began participating in sports and going for runs again.

But I would cycle 26 miles
And I would cycle 26 more
Just to be the man who cycled 52 miles
To fall down exhausted at my door

Sorry, that just came to mind. :D

The point is i've realised how unfit i've become. Stop showing off.

I had this sort of realisation last year. "Right, now i'm done at school for 6 weeks, i'll go on a 10 minute run every morning". After the first morning it became a 5 minute run. After the 2nd morning it became "oh i can't be arsed".

Only 26 miles? Psh. On the weekends (both on saturday and sunday) I bike from my apartment to Elgin (that's roughly 40 miles, in case you didn't know). I also bike for a few hours every day at an average of about 13-14 miles per hour, and not on flat ground for quite a bit of it, yet I don't even consider myself to be in very good shape. Sounds like you need to exercise more.

As soon as I stoped hanging out with my more active friends, at the age of like 10, I instantly started getting fater and fater. I gain like 10 pounds per year :o But 2 years ago and last year, I lost 30 each summer.
So at least now it balanced out. Lost about 9-10 this summer, 20 more and I will be in the middle of the BMI for "normal" or whatever crap.

Anyways: DO NOT BECOME FAT, EVER. You're just 17, but when you get 20+, WATCH OUT. There is nothing more annoying than losing weight, because you have to change your habits, since obviously you have the habits of a fat-ass.
It sucks. Blah.

40 miles?
That's far. That's 65km. That's about as much as I can do in a day and then my legs are bust. And I don't even go much faster than you :o I average like 16 miles per hour.

Where's Magiman? He's does bike races. He did a century race ( 100 miles!! ) a few times :p That's crazy.

Well, I can go faster , but I try to pace myself if if I plan on going on a long bike ride. And what kind of bike do you use? I ride a mountain bike all the time, mostly because it's more comfortable, even though it's a lot heavier.

I get a hell of a lot of excercise such as running, cycling and swimming. It's because my dad makes me excercise a lot, he doesn't want me to turn into a lazy bastard like a lot of my friends! Though I'll have to make sure I stay in these good habits when I'm older because it's so much easier to go and do something with him on my back all the time!

Ouch. I feel sorry for you.

As for my fitness, I think I'm in shape. I ride my bike around the neighborhood at least once a day, but usually twice, so I should be fine.

Well, I found out that I wasn't in such great shape a few months ago when I could barely run half as far as I used to be able to. Now I'm getting back in shape--just yesterday I ran a good ten miles with a 40 pound rucksack--getting back in shape definately makes you feel a whole lot better.

Yea, I eat shit and don't put weight on... My metabolism is super fast. I've always been wondering when it'll pack up and give me 15 extra stone to carry around...

Over the past 5 years or so, it's gone from playing footy about 3 nights a week for about 3 hours a time to playing every friday for a couple of hours and now it's playing for a couple of hours about twice a month. Also, I used to swim regularly, swam 4,000 metres (160 lengths) at the age of 11. I doubt i'd be able to do that now. All I ever do is go to a mates and watch a film/play on Pro Evo 5, or go to the bar in the leisure centre and watch the match.

I've now decided, I don't give a shit what time I get up, but I WILL go for a short run every morning when i've finished school for the summer. That should get my stamina back up a bit. I'll cut down on the mars bars too ^_^
