Vice's interview with Issei Sagawa who in 1981 murdered and ate miss Renee Hartevelt after bringing her to his apartment claiming to need help translating German for a poetry class he was taking. He apparently shot her in the back of the head with a rifle then began his descent into madness starting at her buttocks. He has stated that he chose her for her health and beauty, which were characteristics he thought he lacked. Sagawa has stated he fainted after killing her, but awoke a few hours later and realized he had to begin his desire of carving into her with a butcher knife. He continued his bloody cuisine for two days before dumping the body in a remote lake, but was seen during the act and the French police later arrested him. They found parts of her body in his freezer at his apartment.
His wealthy father provided a top defense lawyer and after being held for two years without trial the French judge found him legally insane and unfit for trial and ordered him to be held indefinitely in a mental institution. The entire situation has lifted Issei to cult status as a macabre celebrity of sorts which probably was why he was extradited back to Japan, where to this day he remains unpunished for his crime. He has openly been interviewed about his murder and has wrote a book about it, clearly showing no shame. He's been questioned and criticized by many, but one thing is for certain, the story is definitely interesting.
In this interview I believe he expresses suicidal thoughts and tells Vice that having to make a living while being known as a cannibal was terrible punishment.
Below is a photo of the woman and Issei, although if you just google their names you come up with much more graphic photos.
