I got their self-titled album (their only album out so far, I believe) when I heard the song "Woman" playing on the radio in a music store. I was really impressed with that song.

In fact, the entire album is impressive. Wolfmother is a psychedelic rock band (sounds like it's right from the 70's, too) that originated in Australia. They sound a lot like The Mars Volta to me, which is my favorite band next to Pink Floyd.

Yeah, a few of my good friends are fairly big on that band, they always play their music while we're driving around. It's pretty good stuff, to be sure.

They don't sound psychedelic whatsoever from what I've heard, yeah I've only heard Mother, but that was an incredibly straight-up rock song, not bashing it, but it wasn't psychedelic. Verse chorus verse et cetera and then that outro thing that just sounded like they were playing a scale.

Whatever, that's just what I thought, the rest of their songs could easily be completely different, my sister likes them quite a bit, I just didn't really see anything all the special about them.

Well, according to them, they're psychedelic. And yeah, "Mother" is different than other songs on the album.

They kinda fit into that Modern Rock with Indie influece, to name some mainstream bands you're probably familar with are the White Stripes, and the Arctic Monkeys, which both have their take on infusing classic rock chord progressions with modern day antics and style. I've only heard one song by them, which is Woman, so I can't really judge if I like them or not.

Exhibit A of why bands are not usually capable of classifying themselves. Many bands give themselves too much credit, and try and convince people (maybe themselves too) that they're transcending genres when they're really just treading water.

Maybe because people don't want to believe they're listening to genre-stagnant music, or because the musicians themselves don't want to come to terms with it, that they wanted to make something completely unheard of, but had to settle for something lower than their expectations.

Whatever, just play and listen to music and don't worry about if it's nothing 'new' or 'innovative', as long as you like it and people like it, people should stop trying to sell themselves and their music as something flashy when it isn't. Regardles, enjoy the album.

Here's their MySpace site which has four songs on it. Give it a go, although possibly my favorite song from the album ("Tales") isn't there. That song is so cool.

Nah, they classified themselves correctly. They're kind of psychedelic/progressive rock. I heard some keyboards and a pipe.

I just hate people who hate something because it's popular, but still good, much like the song "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zeppelin. Great song. May be overplayed, but it's a great song.

I bought their album and it's actually amazing. It's probably the best modern rock album out there yet it plays like a classic rock.

Indeed, 'tis.

Also, I'm listening to "Woman" right now, and there's a psychedelic part around 2 minutes into the song. Very good.

I promise I'm done after this, but; WHAT? I listened to it, there was keyboards for about twenty seconds. Jethro Tull had keyboards and organ are they psychedelic? Good christ, Keane has keyboards. Then for about 3 seconds the keyboards did a psuedo-psychedelic thing where it sounded like feedback and reverb. WHOA MAN THAT MADE ME TRIP OUT. That's what psychedelic music was originally meant to do....

Ugh, no they definitely did not classify themselves correctly. They're like a bunch of kids who call themselves rebels because they occasionally litter sometimes, if no one is looking, maybe. I'm not trying to convince you that you're wrong, because you're hopelessly stubborn, I just... whatever, wow just wow.

Are they mainstream? Huh, didn't know, nor do I care.

Haha, just listen to the rest of the album.

I don't see how I'm stubborn by thinking they're a psychedelic band. You seem to be the stubborn one... I mean, you haven't even listened to the entire album.

Do iiiiiiiiit.

They also have an iPod commercial with the song "Love Train", and are touring right now (I believe)

I know someone who has tickets to their show, and is animating a music video for Joker & The Theif.

'The White Unicorn' sounds a lot like a few Zeppelin songs.
'The Joker and the Thief' is awesome, but a bit repetitive.
'Tales from the Fprest Gnomes' is good, I just like it.

It's a great album.

They remind me of everything that was good about rock back in the day.
