Good for you man, I sure hope your words changed your families beliefs a little. And in my words, 1. If white people are out to get them, what evidence do they have to back that up? And 2. If white people are backstabbers, then why did we ever stop relying on slaves? Too many people live in the past, slaves were he past, they don't notice that's not how it is now, yet they still point out that in white people! What about MLK's speach, didn't he obviously point out that there's no more segregation?!

It's a tough situation. People can break all to easily and retract what they believe in, all to easily. I wasn't going to have that happen. Thinking for yourself is a very good thing, yet at the same time so hard to do.

Great job taking a stand man. Not only did you demonstrate clarity on racial tolerance, but you also really took a stand for your cousin who just wanted to find some love with the woman he is dating right now.

You showed the true meaning of "family" by not joining in on the insults your cousin and actually standing up for him and you did it with your own beliefs. You would've been a real fucking sellout if you went along with the insults or did nothing.

It's tough finding family approval with your beliefs, especially when the deck is greatly stacked against you. It's usually better to just get them to accept your beliefs rather than changing theirs.

To be blunt, your family could believe in whatever the fuck they want, but if they take actions with their beliefs in the wrong direction (especially to go as far as to belittle one of their own), than that's when something should be done.

And you did something.

There are some people, believe it or not, who are still sore at us for slavery. This might be a reason.

A long line of bad experiences might be another. The world has some real bitches in it, I'll tell you that.

Just say "fuck it" and move on. Even if it is your family, taking an idiot's words to heart could ruin you.

Racism is a vicious cycle. Parents from one race will teach their kids to distrust people from another race. And when the kids see each other they clash, thus planting the seeds of hate that they will pass on to their kids.

I used to live in a black neighborhood, and when I went out to find kids to play with some welcomed me with open arms. While others would taunt me and sometimes hit me. This treatment and the harassing of my sister (leading her to cut herself, no emo jokes please) made me distrust black people for a while.

I eventually wisened up and noticed how stupid was to hate an entire race/people under the actions of a few individuals. Plus I learned hate is a horrible thing, that corrupts and causes wars and deaths. One could go as far as to call hate a drug.

I hope to speak to kids to treat fellow humans as equals, and not giving up because others were taught to hate. Hopefully I can keep my kids far away from my prejudice father.
