I just bought a lightsnake analog to USB converter - this thing is completely bad-ass!

Take a look at it RIGHT HERE.

I got mine at Target for $40 - this is a great device to record straight from your guitar (or any other live instrument) directly into a USB port.

So far it integrates almost flawlessly with several apps - I've run into very very slight latency issues but with a few minor adjustments you can barely even notice the latency at all.

I know that the "how do I?" has come up a few times and so far this seems to be a terrific and inexpensive solution.

I highly recommend this device.

USB is the port of the future,it will likely replace a lot of other ports on the PC...it's a lot faster than most of them so pretty soon it will make them obsolete

who knows...maybe one day even your keyboard & mouse ports will be USB

Congratulations! You just destroyed someone else's hard work! This Flash has been blammed.

I've seen it advertised for around $70 but I only paid $40 - great bit of gear.

I use a USB mouse. My dad has a wireless keyboard and mouse, and the receiver interfaces with the USB port.

Mind you, USB as far as audio and video is concerned most definitely isn't the future, considering firewire is twice as fast and more reliable.

LJ, I've seen those converters around, and they do look rather swell, but for now I'll just have to live with my PODxt X-)

Absolutely - but considering the $260 difference in price the USB is not a bad deal at all.

Definitely not a bad deal at all. Be interesting to hear what it sounds like with Amplitube or Guitar Rig.

Looks cool, but what would be the difference between connecting your amp to your pc with a cable and a jack converter? This would only cost $10...

No line noise, low latency, plus it has a pre-amp built into it dedicated for guitar.

most soundcards also aren't prepared to handle the high frequencies the guitar puts out,so when you put it through the mic in or line in you get distortion

Not to try and cause any offence, but you're kind of wrong there :).

Guitars have a very limited bandwidth, and it's well within the reach of a consumer-end soundcard. The only reason you get distortion (which would only occur if you put it through the mic in, not the line in) is because your driving too hot a signal into the onboard preamp. Roll down the volume on the internal mixer, and you'll be right.

none taken, but i've never had much successe just jacking straight in no matter what i tried...i bought a small mixer to remedy the problem

Me either. The microphone port is not the best choice for plugging the guitar into the computer. Best way is to use a preamp plugged into the line input (like what you've done).

inexpensive? you're jokin' right? that's ten times the amount you'd pay for a the most expensive 1/4" to 1/8" adapter at a radio shack. and then you can plug your guitar straight into the line-in on the soundcard. usb is for midi and cameras. anything else is a waste of a usb port since you already have other ports that you can use everything else with.
