This was posted in General by noogai (the author of Animator Vs Animation), but about 95% of the people here don't go in there because 95% of General is spam..
So, ebaumsworld.com has posted a statement above the Animator Vs Animation flash. The statement is from Alan:
In case you heard otherwise ...
Here's a quote from the talented author of this flash animation:
"The people who work at eBaum's World are not what everyone says they are. They contacted me BEFORE they posted my animation on their site. Other sites did not take the time to do that. They have bought my animation for a good $250, while letting me keep distribution rights. They also entered my work into their monthly contest."
- Alan Becker, Artist
So basically they are saying (or getting Alan to tell us) that eBaumsworld paid Alan in advance and asked him for permission to host the flash. The truth is that Alan was paid £250 to say that that was the truth and that he had actually wrote that, but he wasn't. They (ebaums) did this because they knew that Alan was considering suing them and didn't want to go through that.
Alan shouldn't have took the bribe, but he did so because he had no money.
Will ebaumsworld not stop? Bastards.
Alan = noogai.
Sup, bitches :)

Yeah, its a bummer. Its probably quite hard to reffuse though. The annoying thing is that the fact that he was bribed proves that ebaums was scared. That would've probably just motivated me more. I think this is quite a breakthrough personally. It shows that ebaums isn't all powerful and suggests that he would've lost the court case.

Its a shame really. Now they are bribing people. HE should have gotten it sponsered by a good site, he wuld have made much more money. PLus 250$ isnt that much.

So if I understand correctly Ebaums put the animation on their site, later noogai said he would sue them then Ebaums said we will give $250 because we stole it, and noogai took it and now Ebaums is saying they didn't steal?

I agree. Alan got exploited and ripped off. It's a shame that eFag can manipulate people by simply throwing small parts of his ill-gotten gains at them, and that noogai is worst off out of all of this.
Apparently he's sending the money back now he's realised how royally cheated he is.

Well atleast thier not being total asses and giving him something for it. And if he wan't to accecpt that money and let them host it then that's his choice. There's no point fighting for him if he's happy.

I think he regrets it though. They made him say they didn't steal it. Which is crappy because now he can't sue. They have evidence that they didn't steal it. Even though they did.

One good thing for him is that the flash file on ebaumsworld has been updated and now has the affiliate link from GalactiGames in it, so Alan will hopefully make some money from that (the previous flash on ebaums didn't have that link).

Sorta, but now he's trying to send the money back and withdraw the "statement".. but ebaumsworld won't let him. They won't give him their paypal address, stuff like that.

But he isn't happy, and when he accepted he didn't realise how totally screwed and misrepresented he was being.

I'm certainly not jealous of this soulless, money raking, blasphemous and immoral creation of lies.
But you're right, we need to move on...

It'd also mean losing the moral high ground :P
We've seen a lot of ideas about protecting our stuff from sites like eBaums, and stuff like that, but has anyone though about an actual campaign against it? I mean, as animators and coders we're the people most directly affected by sites such as his. Has anyone thought about setting up an actual group to raise awareness about this sort of thing? With a website, and a cool logo and stuff? We've seen examples of stuff like the broken laptop sold on eBay, haven't we? If we get the message out as far as possible that what sites like eBaums are doing is wrong and illegal, it's bound to be better than just sitting around with our thumbs in our arses. Hell, with a bit of luck we might even get some coverage from the media.

To explain, Alan got CPC sponsorship from Galacti Group. He got paid over $50 so far that I know of because it is hosted on ebaumsworld alone. They didnt' ask for permission first, but he never asked them to remove it. The offer his friend from ABS made is generous, and talking to him he sounds like a great guy but Alan is actually making money this way. It's not bribe, it's fair pay.
Stop telling Alan how to run his life. He has a link to his site and EBW may showcase it now. I asked him to post the message you linked to myself liam to clarify that mess.
I don't like ebaumsworld, but him making money is more important than ebaumsworld losing it.

Good going Inglor. I fully agree.
But I'm only on the 'anti Ebaum' side here, not 'control and use Alan', so I don't have much to say about that part.
I don't know, but I kind of like the PASCAW one. It describes the motion best I think. Except for the partnership. And we also need a logo...

That isn't what this is about. It's great that Adam is getting money through GG's sponsorship program and the flash being on ebaumsworld is of course helping that, but what this is about is ebaumsworld getting away with everything and always lieing about stuff.
They stole the Flash in the first place, and now they paid Adam to say that they didn't because they don't want people to know they are stealing Flash. Unbiased people looking at that statement will believe it (why wouldn't they?) and will think that eBaumsworld is actually a positive thing for the Flash community - paying people to host their flash animations/games and giving them extra coverage.. blah blah blah.

This isn't just about Alan. There's a principle here about stealing peoples work, not to mention making millions out of the exploitation of countless artists.

Listen kid, I've been doing this fight a lot longer than you, noogai, altf4 and probably most other names you can recall discluding few. You can't really beat leechers who steal content, it doesn't work that way, the majority of people don't read forums, and that doesn't work. What does work is sponsorship, if you can make money BECAUSE leechers are such assholes, it's a win-win situation, although they make money on your back, you make money on theirs :)

You can't expect people just to lie back and let people like him win. What eBaum's does is wrong; there's no other way of looking out it. He makes money out of other people's hard work, without their consent. Whether some people can come out better off after it is neither here nor there.
