What happened to electronic music? 2006-06-23 04:08:56 Reply

Seriously, what the hell happened? Many people dont realize that alot of early electronic music was acually very sinister sounding. Ive never really been open about my love for it because of what everyone thinks of when they hear the word techo, they ALWAYS tell me, "oh that gay shit with the girls singing and the queer sounding music"?. Im seriously sick of trance giving the rest of electronic music a gay reputation. No offenese to anyone, I mean, I know everyone has their tastes, but what the fuck?!, it the EMO of it all! No one even knows about most other genres of electronic music because everyone thinks of fucking trance, or house....(not acid houe by the way, cause it kicks ass). Doesn't anyone without those faggish tastes realize NIN is mostly electronic, as well as skinny puppy, the ministry, and many others? People just need to realize theres more to electronic music then the shit you think of, SERIOUSLY....and sorry, cause im drunk and pissed at the whole trance genre at the moment :)

dark and sinister electronica for the win. Electronica is not meant to be all bubblegum and nice to listen to.

But you guys are forgetting that every genre has a bastard, red-headed step brother that is so hideous and ugly that it somehow forges sympathy from what should have been clear, redblooded americana-fueled hatred and instead ends up paying huge bucks for their cd's. Hip-hop has crunk music... Rock has Nickelback. And the more you look, the deeper it goes. So... oh I dunno... gtfo? Yea, ALL OF YA!

Good point. I've been owned :(.

Actually, there have been several good points in this thread. I really shouldn't talk about electronica because it certainly isn't my forte.

No one listen to me ok.

well were on the topic of electronica exactly wut kind do you hate when u mentioned the ministry u described trance music were u talking about the ministry of sound or some other f tard ministry. I do both bubble gum techno and the darker shit and from the looks of things the bubble gum pop sounding stuff is wuts in right now, u play for your audience. We all know wut kicks ass, its just that gemres in electronica are so ill defined i have a friend who always says SO Um u making TEchno still? he thinks all electronica is techno! wut up with thaT. personally i like that kick ass raver shit but i've never been good enough to make it. The idea that all trance is gay is small minded yes some trance is not good and some trance is. Just because Gay people may or may not like trance does not make it good or bad. GOD NG THINK about wut ur saying!

Yeah, I did realize I forgot to mention its not all trance im talking about. Im talking about that damn euro trance, the really up-beat kind. I agree, that statement I made is a little narrow minded, but many people think of just that when they think of electronic music. I guess im still pretty annoyed on how trance came to be what it is today. Old trance is almost horrifing (sp) at times, while the new trance just seems to have whored itself out. I dont mind the more poppy sounding genres of electronic music, I just wish more people had a clue as to what a lot of other genres are.

Everyone has their own interpretation of electronic music, the reality is, that electronic music is meant to be anything, undefinable by any standard.

The music that's started the whole cliche/stereotype is the mainstream, cross-promotional, moment-by-moment producers who sign shitty singers to make songs by a mainstream standard, that is, music that is ruled by what's popular, and what's universal, and easy to create, to invoke the simplest of emotions. For example, Cascada, who can go burn in hell.

I just want to say this:
I don't know Ministry of Sound. But I hate 'em, because they always show up whenever I try to find stuff by the amazing industrial metal one man band, Ministry.

I don't listen to any electronic music, but if you want a laugh, download some scooter, or scatman... That's the funniest shit I've ever heared. Amazingly gay. I don't know if it would fall under the electronic category though.

I'm not really too sure about all these different "genres of music," but honestly who cares?

I mean yeah there needs to be some classification as to what kind of music you mean it to represent, but what's with all these names? house...acid house, dark, sinister, industrial... I usually just see them getting people into lame debates about what style is what and which sucks and which doesn't.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but I really don't have a care for getting to know 50 new genres of music a day. Peace out.

You're describing how it already is, in order for it to work properly, things like that can't be in place at all.

And F1UK3 cuts through the crap.

Does it really matter what style people think your music is? As long as people like what they hear :P

I just call all electronica music techno, besides electronica was originally a new word for techno :)

GOD do i hate whenever i show some classy piece of electronic music to anyone not familiar with electronic music, be it my own or anything else, and they define it as techno.

me: "See, Röyksopp are cool, don't you think?"
them: "Well, it's techno (we think techno is gay, although we never actually say so)"
me: "Fuck you. This is NOT techno you son of a bitch. "
them: "*Cries*"
