this is a petition for those who think that new jersey should be split into two halves; a new jersey and a south jersey. i will then send an email to the governor with this link, who will then send it to teh national government, and hopefully it will pass
for those who dont know, new jersey, even as one is different between the north and south. the north is influenced by new york, and the south by philadelphia. in the north, it costs more to buy a house and has better schools than south jersey. even in common speech, when i go out of state, and asked where im from, i say south jersey, not new jersey. and when the person(s) hear that, they say "oh, so your from joysey ", imitating a new york accent, which no one has down here.

Do you really want to cut yourself off from all of the tax revenue generated by North Jersey businesses? I've lived in both north and south Jersey, and S. Jersey is definitely nicer in some respects, though there is certainly less to do. Here is a clue for you, except for the northernmost sections of New Jersey, no one sounds like they are from Brooklyn. Of course, I don't think the people from North Jersey would be too sad to see the rednecks down here go. Flying the Confederate (or rebel as the people down here call it) flag), totally forgetting that a)the union won and b)SOUTH JERSEY WAS PART OF THE UNION.

I went to Lamb of God at the tweeter in Camden, their soundcheck guy came out and said Fuck Jersey and Jersey can suck my dick. Then Lamb of God came out and said they were gonna pretend they were in Philly because Jersey sucks. So your state got beat.

Just start talking about Bruce Springsteen, that should make you feel better.

New Jersey is too small to split in half, the new states would be the size of nickels.
If they did though, who would get to be the garden state?

Gasp, we'd be Delaware, the county state. :O

Is there a real reason besides the accent differences?

I found lots of differences when I moved from Northern to Southern Jersey. With the exception of the few small urban centers, race is relatively homogenous, mostly caucasion with some (though increasing numbers of) hispanics and african americans. The populations are less densely crowded. Businesses tend not be as well run. We've had nothing but headaches with contractors and the like. Shoddy workmanship and missed appointments. The one privately owned business I worked at was incredibly disorganized. Up until about 8 years ago, most of the roads in my town were appearantly not paved. From my observations, average level of education is lower. The area was relatively isolated, so educational demands were lower to make a living up until recently. There is an active chapter of the KKK on etown south of mine. Many people in that town still fly the confederate flag, or as they call it "rebel" flag. This is again the result of isolation.
On the upside, south jersey, with the exception of the few small urban areas, tends to be safer and less crowded. The area is cleaner. They are getting more business down here, though white collar jobs are still hard to come by. More minorities are moving in, making the place a bit more diverse. Cost of living is somewhat lower, as housing prices are still lower than the Northern Jersey.

So, the North is rich, suburban and/or urban and the South is poor and rural?
That's not much of a reason to split. Think about the tax base!

If we do split, I want to rename the two parts Delaware's II and III.

Sorry for the double post. First, I agree about the taxes. If S. Jersey left, we'd be shooting ourselves in the foot. As for Southern Jersey being rural, in some areas it is, but its really a slightly sparse suburban in most places. S. Jersey also isn't really poor. It mostly runs from working class to some upper middle class. When the housing boom hit down here, many people had houses that shot up by four times the value. As my area is still one of the fastest growing, housing prices aren't going to slump as badly as in other areas. (My town also has a lot of forest put into protected land, so our growth is limited preventing us from becoming overcrowded). This coupled with constructiong has provided my area with a relatively good local economy.

You do realize that most states you go to are like this.
Go to nothern Mississippi and souther Mississippi. Cultures, and many other things are very different.
Hell northern California and southern California is even a bigger difference.
Same thing with Tennesee.

Don't you drag my city into this. Philadelphia has nothing to do with jersey other than a borderline and a bridge, and we want to keep it like that.

new york > stupid jersey
first off, this is the new jersey. second, thats why we want to split; so new york can have their own little slice of new jersey and pennsylvania could have thier own. we get trenton, they get new brunswick
