Okaaaaaaaaayyyy...back on topic with this whole new system..

So we can't fill these pages with anything besides the new system? I mean, we already have 5-10 pages with banter just about the redesign; why can't we have a little fun scattered in a few of those pages? I've just been skimming the entire page here, with long ass posts arguing whether or not to have 5XR or 10XR be the amount for a bronze whistle (not that exactly, but you get the point).

I understand this is important, but why do we have to focus on this overhaul instead of more interesting stuff? Or even just a change in topic would be nice; like what Nintendo Madness said (see below), or even what Cole said. Surely that's a better topic then all this stuff. And honestly, this is just some club on an internet site; does it really matter? I think life and possibly Finland (could be someone else though) said it best; this is way too complicated for what we do.

Well, duh. Not only would I like to be able to wave my anti-membership stick like a mod swings a ban stick, but it's a good idea. I hate it when I can't tell some one they're in or not when they apply to my department, just because I'm can't do it officially. I can throw my support behind them, but it still doesn't mean they will get in.

I know what you mean, it's seems like APF head was crushing with all the work he was doing. Maybe we could also take the redesign at a slower pace becasue all of us are back to work an' school.

I was scanning some pages and i saw APF said he was playing Sonny alot. I thought WTF is Sonny. And it turned out to an awesome game whihc I'm now playing and addicted.

Definitely. Especially now, with mid-terms/finals in the coming weeks, and I personally just got hired to work at Subway, which is from 4-9 PM on weekdays and occasionally on a weekend.

You should take some of that valuable time you have and make some money to get a new computer.

And that game Sonny is great. one of the few games I actually like enough to play for more than 5 minutes.

I played it for like... a whole 15 minutes.

Meh, it's the second week back to school, not used to it yet.

Me, im good.

That's good to hear, at least someone other than APF and I has a life.

This week is my mid-terms week.
A pain but what can i do about it.

I know how you feel, my mid-terms were brutal, put amazingly, I did good.

For ones of the exams I had it only took me 30 minutes and you have to stay a full hour before you can leave. Well i only had to wait a few minutes. So yeah... peace out.

We had two hours and I finished each final in about 45 minutes, I forgot my iPod and cell phone.

Oh, had an ALGEBRA II test today, logarithms, not too tough, but enough to get three wrong.

We're not on that yet. Currently, we're on powered roots (just a one-day thing). So, I just finished my next-year scheduling. What is everyone taking? I'm doing 2 AP classes (AP Psychology and AP Physics). I can't take any of the fun classes that I planned to (Video Production II and Computer Animation), but I'll just take them next year...maybe lol. I'm also taking Pre-Calc, and your standard History, CP Lit, Health, and Gym classes. Oh! And Spanish III.

I'm gonna have to disagree with everyone and say that I liked the blue better. I guess it's because this past month I've spend more time on NG than I have in the past 3 years combined lol. When the orange came up I was basically blinded by it, but now it isn't so bad.

As for right now...how does everyone like my shiny new level?

Well, I'm shooting for AP US II,

Lucky! I love history and there's no AP/CP (honors) classes for it until I'm a Senior and it's College Credit!

AP Chem

We don't have that, either!

AP Gov

Come on!

Honors English III

Taking that...

Honors Algebra II

In that

Pre-Calc

Taking that...

Spanish IV.

Our school is stupid and started us in foreign language in 8th grade. We don't even have a Spanish V!

So, I see you're smart too...I'm excited for AP Psych. I guess you get to sleep and retell your experience lol.

Yeah, I didn't think that US II would be an AP class until I looked at the course selection sheet. But whatever; I like history.

AP Chem
We don't have that, either!

Really? That sucks. I wouldn't take it, but I want an AP science under my belt, and since I took Chemistry this year, I figure I'll know a good portion of whatever's going on next year.

AP Gov
Come on!

Hey, don't blame me! Really, I just like the teacher that teaches it. Plus it's only a semester long, compared to 3 quarters for every other AP class.

Honors Algebra II
In that

My bad. I'm in that, just not in it yet. We only have to spend a semester in every class, and I've got that next semester.

Spanish IV.
Our school is stupid and started us in foreign language in 8th grade. We don't even have a Spanish V!

Our district does the same thing, only you take either Spanish or French 1 in 7th and 8th grade. But my school doesn't have a "V" for any other language besides Spanish, though.

So, I see you're smart too...

Too? Are you saying that you're as smart as me?

I'm excited for AP Psych. I guess you get to sleep and retell your experience lol.

I hope it's that easy. But even if it was that easy, I still wouldn't take it; I'm hoping to just chill my senior year; I'm not taking AP Spanish V, any AP science, and I don't think that there's another history that I could take.

Today my exams were easy. They took me like 40 minutes each.

So anyway, I'm an "A" student and I was sent a letter awhile back, they want me to try out the SATs, I'm kinda worried since I'm only in 8th and intent on scoring as high as possible (though they just want to see). Any suggestions? Is it pretty easy? Usually I don't doubt myself since I somehow take tests out with a high score (meaning 95%-passed 100%), but I seem to have short term memory loss since I will be told something, and try as I might cannot remember what was said only a minute ago. I also get up to get something only to find that 2 steps later I will forget what I needed and sit back down. Thoughts?

Also on a different note, what do we exactly do here? I understand it's to protect NG but how? Just troll for submittions/posts that should be removed? Do we inform others in the group for them to also vote for/against it? I thought there was a rule against that...

No, come on as in why don't we have that!

Too? Are you saying that you're as smart as me?

Well...lol. Yeah, I'm pretty smart I guess lol. I'm taking a bunch of CC classes Senior year and all of the fun classes I couldn't do next year.

On the topic of being smart...I love history, and I don't think our history teacher knows it lol. There's this other kid who openly loves it and is extremely annoying and idiotic, and the teacher loves him. he picked him to keep score while we were playing boys vs. girls history jeopardy the other day, and it was time for final jeopardy where you could only pick one person. Everyone yells out "Cole!" and the teacher goes "Well, you can have Mitch for this one too!". The class keeps going on with the "Cole! Cole!" business, and the teacher goes "Mitch! Go on up there!" I was frustrated to say the least lol.

Well first you apply to a department you think you'd be interested in. Which you can do
here. And then we either accept or reject you based on whether or not we feel you qualify.

And no, we don't "troll" for submissions and posts that should be removed. We add to the NG community by being a respected group of users. We're an all around type of group who goes out of their way to help people not only where they need help in proper posting etiquette, but we help aspiring flash and audio artists, and we work to protect the portal by voting fair. Not only that, but we're also a decent group of users ourselves, almost like an NG "family."

If you have any further questions feel free to PM myself or any of the other members. Hopefully you'll apply based on what you've seen and heard from us so far.

On another note, the bill for Heads of Department having higher powers has passed, and now all we need to do is get the XR system figured out. May I remind you all that your own systems are due TO ME by PM no later than 8:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2008.

The reason I've said send them to me is because I'm the one who normally holds the voting on bills, and it would only make sense if I basically put them into a multiple choice thing and we all vote accordingly.

Yes, this may seem like it sucks but we can only sit around and argue about a system for so long, and now we've had to move on to a "majority rules" action. Think about it, if we don't have a ranking system, we don't have a memberlist, which also means we don't know who our new or discharged members are, which also means we can't hold contests. This is why this must be done ASAP. Thanks for your time everyone! I'm off to bed for now.

These are the thoughts I have had on XR:

I urge all members to read this post!

Rewards are handed out ONLY based by performance. This can be by participation in-club and by
extra-curricular duties that you can notify a Dept Head about.

Rewarding by stats is improper because you would have to reward a member twice - once for the competition/mission/whatever and once for the stat itself. There is no point for that.

The act of posting alone isn't always a positive contribution to NG. Nor is the total B/P figure. All a level shows is a commitment to vote on 5 submissions a day.

I am not saying people with high stats have done nothing positive for NG, but the essence of the DOD is about helpfulness and this is something a stat does not show.

Every month a general XR is given of 20 for all members. Longer standing members get a bonus of 10 per 6 months.
For example a member who has joined for 7 months with no other bonus to their rank would have

(6 x 20) + (1 x30) = 120 + 30 = 150, which is the rank of Corporal

Department heads hold higher responsibility in the club and so will be given more for their efforts.
The base for this amount is 40, and will still be +10 for every 6 months.

Note that the remade member list will have the day of joining (the DOD) for all NG DOD members for ease of calculating this number. Older members will be paid according to their latest rate.

* * * * * * * * * * *

How to make the initial total number for older members will be very difficult I know.
Months of inactive service will not be paid for. Absence for any long duration without

explanation will require you to start at the base (20) XR rate again (as a new member).
If reasonable explanation is made, you can resume your normal rate.

There has to be an agreed number on how much older members should be rewarded. I think this has to be worked out between the IA and the members themselves. This may cause some difficulty, but I think it is a simple problem that can be overcome with patience.

Some things that can be given as "bonus" XR to members (current and new);
NG Moderator = 1000 XR
Making a "major" contribution to the club = 300 XR or varies
Hosting a competition = 100 XR
Making and monitoring a 'mission' = 80 XR
Maintaining the NG-DOD list = combined 50 XR (if more than one person assists the number is divided)
A major contribution to NG = 400 -800 XR

A department head get a one-off bonus of 3000 XR (2nd Lt.), but if they leave the bonus is revoked. This is to help the leaders maintain a higher rank. When they leave the post they also get paid the same as a normal member.

* * * * * * * * * * *

This method seems confusing on how many points to give to active members. It is meant to be a system you report your deeds and then they are added onto your rank.
IT IS NOT THE DEPARTMENT HEAD'S JOB TO CONSTANTLY LOOK AT YOUR PROFILE OR POSTS!
You do something noteworthy - report it.

I will make an example of a member (chose this name randomly from the NG DOD list on the forum)
andrea364
A member for about 4? (I may be wrong - apologies if I am) months, so as a base XR rating she would have;
(4 x 40) = 80
So if andrea364 has done anything she feels that has added to NG as a whole she can tell her dept head about it and see if it is approved. At the end of the month her stats will be updated by the list keeper.

* * * * * * * * * *
A stat is a number, we are all proud of them. Myself included. But it shouldn't be how we base our rewards.

That is true, but there are stat whores out there.

The road to a dept. head is going to be a long one, but I'm willing to make the trip.

I'll need to give more "major" contributions to NG.

And maybe become a mod, and I'm set.

Well, guys, lately I've been trying to find a proxy that can let me get on NG from school.

I found a couple, but they won't let me post for some reason.

I think I might try going through the proxy and googling newgrounds.com and caching it so I can find the "Post it! >" button.

Wish me luck.

So, If I don't post that often, It's because I'm at school, grounded, and heartbroken.

Peace.

Ok, I read the whole thing and it does look like a cool idea, but that is a lot of random things to keep track of. It not being as easy as looking at a profile will be difficult on department heads and the list keepers not to mention each individual member now having to keep track of their own stats to make sure they are having everything they report being counted.

Telling Dept Heads about things will help, but it would still be somewhat confusing. If the club grows (which I hope it will) then there will be an absolute TON of information to keep track of not only between updates, but always.

I think it's a noble idea, but putting it into action would probably be difficult, tedious and confusing.

APF, as for my XR system I will edit it up and PM you tomorrow sometime, most likely.

Oh, and get this shit. My work now blocks Newgrounds forum posts. I can get into the forums, but not the threads themselves. Some genius blocked the threads as "games."

Fuck.

So you will see a lot less posting form me during the week. No more NG on breaks anymore. *sniff*

Anything you do that helps NG or the club become a better or stronger place on your own ideas.

Ooh, can't wait to be a... um, Warrant Officer V

Haha, I know, I thought about this too. Technically I would only be a Corporal if I didn't do anything else

It is made to make people participate. There would be plenty of competitions being held for people to get points after the re-styling. It isn't so bad then.

That's cool, so by the end of the month, I should have twenty points!

At least.

Wow, wish I was a head right about now.

That's the point. They have more to do so they should be rewarded. :P

Good job!

Thankyou :)

Making a "major" contribution to the club = 300 XR or varies
And what would that be?

Well, this what we are doing now would be a nice fit in. Something later down the track would be good. I have made mention of thins that people could do in the past for this. NG DOD preloers and the like. It really could be anything.

A major contribution to NG = 400 -800 XR
Like?

Casualty has done alot for the members and stat whores among you.

* * * * * * * * * * *
You're damn right it's confusing.

I know, if I knew the sign up date for every member I could have answered it better. But if I couls answer this question accurately it wouldn't be so difficult.

That is true, but there are stat whores out there.

And there always will be *blushes*

Well, guys, lately I've been trying to find a proxy that can let me get on NG from school.

Schools are harder to do, but look in my profile, there may be something you can use.

There is nothing random about it. I will explain further down.

It not being as easy as looking at a profile will be difficult on department heads and the list keepers not to mention each individual member now having to keep track of their own stats to make sure they are having everything they report being counted.

Not true. A member will tell a department head about their contributions. If they like maybe suggest a XR rate. That is the Dept Heads decision.

At the end of the month the dept heads send a PM to the list keeper with all the 'special' XR additions to the members.

The list keeper adds on the monthly XR rate and any bonuses from non-club activities and the list the dept heads give him/her.

Telling Dept Heads about things will help, but it would still be somewhat confusing.

Any new change can seem confusing.

If the club grows (which I hope it will) then there will be an absolute TON of information to keep track of not only between updates, but always.

Updates will continue at the normal rate - once a month, unless the list maker feels otherwise. There wouldn't be a big problem of information unless you wanted to make a "hall of Fame" for the contributions members have made to NG (Which isn't a bad idea) but something unrelated to the list.

I think it's a noble idea, but putting it into action would probably be difficult, tedious and confusing.

No. It is more interactive. Tedious? Certainly not! Confusing, I wont disagree. But I think it is easier.
But the same could be said with basing XR on stats too for all members ;)

I was playing with flash, for the first time in ages. I was learning but I wanted to test myself. I did a jumping character like the one from Cartoonsmart, but I made the character.

I know it isn't the best in the world, but I like it.

You will have to download., someone please tell a site that you can upload it and watch it on the site.

You can try to upload it to youtube or deviantart so you can see what feedback you will receive though it can be more of a polar opposite.

Putfile.com is a great place to host Flash SWF files. You can upload large sizes and you can have your own account and access them. You can also make them public or private.

That fucking sucks! Do you know if it's blocked on the server or on the computers? Becasue if it's been done by the comps you could take a laptop in.

Pretty much all of us here are actually statwhores. But we're respectable statwhores we don't go over the top with it though.

It's on the servers, but I'm going to try the link on deslona's profile next week.

But for now, the weekend is here and so is freedom!

Hey, does it make any difference where I stand now I'm PC GOTHCLAWZ?
I was wondering, do you think my track "My Ideo of Hell" would make a good mix with any of Evil-Dog's subs? I try'd making a collab with him but he said that he was way too busy, his songs also lack bass.

Dude, I honestly can't tell what you're talking about 7-% of the time.

So I'll just put out a random answer.

Alright, shoot.

Rewards are handed out ONLY based by performance. This can be by participation in-club and by
extra-curricular duties that you can notify a Dept Head about.

Well, I'm not so sure about that. I mean, what is a person in the BBS Department going to do as "extra-curricular duties"? Make a "I'll rate you" thread?

Rewarding by stats is improper because you would have to reward a member twice - once for the competition/mission/whatever and once for the stat itself. There is no point for that.

Good point, but we can still base the XR on stats; just exclude all stats gained during a competition or whatever. There should be a roster update after a competition, anyway, to see where you stand based on your's and other's performance during that competition.

The act of posting alone isn't always a positive contribution to NG. Nor is the total B/P figure. All a level shows is a commitment to vote on 5 submissions a day.

True, but some people's posts are very meaningful and dedicated, and every once in a while funny. Sure, some posts are a line response to a dumbass question asked, but others are long ass posts (such as the one I'm replying to) that carrying a great amount of significance. Same can go for B/P points; some one who is out there protecting the portal from spam, and making sure only the good flashes make it on here is a very hard job to do. There will always be those who cheat and just protect everything, but those are the people who can be weeded out.

Rank stuff

I don't really see how this goes with the whole "don't give XR for stats" post, but I like the numbers set, just as long as there are stats to back them up; I don't want to have to get first place in every competition and mission to reach Warrant Officer II.

Every month a general XR is given of 20 for all members. Longer standing members get a bonus of 10 per 6 months.

Hazza! I've contributed to the NGDD reform!

Department heads hold higher responsibility in the club and so will be given more for their efforts.
The base for this amount is 40, and will still be +10 for every 6 months.

My e-penis just grew an inch.

Older members will be paid according to their latest rate.

Another contribution, and this one made my e-penis grow another 3 inches.

Months of inactive service will not be paid for. Absence for any long duration without explanation will require you to start at the base (20) XR rate again (as a new member).
If reasonable explanation is made, you can resume your normal rate.

Well, there was a 3 month (?) period where I couldn't go online, somewhere starting in November of 2006. I can't be exactly sure when it was, but I do remember I got removed from the internet for looking up porn. Damn parents.

Some things that can be given as "bonus" XR to members (current and new);
Hosting a competition = 100 XR

Still think this one should vary, even under the new "stats don't count" proposal. But everything else seems cool.

A department head get a one-off bonus of 3000 XR (2nd Lt.), but if they leave the bonus is revoked. This is to help the leaders maintain a higher rank. When they leave the post they also get paid the same as a normal member.

So, department leaders get 3000 XR, along with retro-active monthly payments? As much as I love the generosity, 3000 XR is too much, or the whole bonus should be scrapped. Most department head didn't get there by joining the NGDD 5 months ago. I think the retro-active 40+ monthly payments should keep the leaders above the rest of the pack.

IT IS NOT THE DEPARTMENT HEAD'S JOB TO CONSTANTLY LOOK AT YOUR PROFILE OR POSTS!
You do something noteworthy - report it.

God knows that I won't check it for you. But I don't think that will be a problem; if I were to do something that I think is worth some XR, I'd tell the entire club.

A stat is a number, we are all proud of them. Myself included. But it shouldn't be how we base our rewards.

To an extent, I agree with you. But the more stats you have, the longer you have been on NG, and therefore the more helpful you are to those who need that help. Tom put in a system where level affects your voting power for a reason; because us regulars know what a good flash looks like, or a good song sounds like because we have seen and listened to a lot of music.

I'm with Viper...in not really knowing at all what you're saying with that first part of your post. And I don't know if your 34 second audio will make it up there with Evil-Dog. It has potential to be decent, but you have to make something longer to get up there with him. Sorry buddy.

Yea, I farm Anal Penguins. Do something about it.
