Parasites don't count. They pollute the organims they infect. They don't pollute the Earth. And besides some parasites are beneficial. You are one hundred percent correct in your assumption that animals are stupid. That's right. They have made no major technological advances, they do not have social systems, and there are no governments of any kind. Animals are, by all means, lacking in mental capacity.

However, consider this:
What is the goal of all creatures?
To be happy.

Although it is true that animals have different, and perhaps more deadly problems than us, by eliminating ours we've created this really shitty cycle. One of our biggest problems is that we don't adapt, we either alter our environment, destroy it, or try to ignore it. Our lives are ridiculously complicated: We have to monitor our computers, decide what to eat, prepare our food, manage our social relationships, post on Newgrounds forums... What animals have is an extremely simple system: Because they are so primitive, so are their goals. How does an animal achieve happiness? It eats. It mates. It parents its young. And it survives.

As for humans? We are so deep in our own bullshit as a species, that to attain happiness is a complex system of goals and plans and longings. We need to foster social relations. We need to buy new products. We have this terrible, terrible thing with material posessions. And the sucky part is, it can be very different for a lot of us: Humans have very different ways of becoming happy depending entirely on the person. Some want money. Some want love. Some want basic desires, like sex or good food. And a very unlucky group seeks greater meaning: That means there are some people who will not be satisfied for their entire lives until they find fulfillment and philosophical peace.

Remember when I said the goal of all creatures is to be happy? I think you can agree with that. Although having a laptop can HELP you get happiness, you would certainly choose "Being happy" over "Getting a laptop".

But here's my point. Animals have basic needs and requirements for happiness. Humans have really complicated, messed up desires and passions that will eventually lead them to happiness. Because of this, because of these differences in standards, animals find themselves way happier than humans most of the time. Sure, they're stupid, but they can enjoy what they have without constantly taking more like we do.

So if they've achieved more happiness than we have, which of us is the sucessful species?

Woah! That's a huge assumption. Maybe you could justify that statement first. And then prove that animals fighting every day for survival can be happy. And then prove that they are aware of this.

Now humanity believes tht they are smart because we have technology and society and we have wars but what if animals think there smart for the exact same reason to quote Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy.
