Ordering? You won't get it for a few days in that case right?
I'm getting it during my free at college. Nipping into Blackpool. I've saved some money for it. If I can I might get Awake too. Depends on how much Amputechture is.

I've had a little listen to Awake in the car.
And its fucking amazing. Most of you say Scenes from a Memory is the best works. But I can it hard to see how anything can top Awake. Its like an extended A Change of Seasons - that lasts a full album.

Its catchy and poppy like Images and Words.
Yet, its also as heavy as my (really heavy) testicles.
Plus its just a great show of the the usual Dream Theater virtuosity.

Nev is in love. I've gotta listen to it more later.

Why is it that some people really find enjoyment in listening to pop groups who have little to no talent whatsoever, who don't ever write their own songs, and aren't original in any way? I have never understood how people can enjoy that type of music.

I mean, along with how amazing it sounds, listening to Dream Theater really gives you an appreciation for how great the instrumentalism is.

And Vai, Satch and Yngwie don't? I think if any song that got me into instrumentalism was Metallicas Orion... Even though it was only one song it opened up the world of music with no vocals to me... Then I started working with Jazz bands, which helped a lot. But not that many people got the same opportunities as I did (working with my dad who was a sound engineer) to hear that type of musicianship, let alone on a live level.

Though I would call DT more of a virtuoso band than an instrumental band, all the members are basically at the top of their game, technically and globally.

Well thats my two cents on the matter,,,

Its only a gimmick. And thats his head, not his fingers. Thats where the talent is.

I heard somewhere that "A Mind Beside Itself" ("Erotomania", "Voices" and "The Silent Man") is supposed to be an introduction to "A Chnage of Seasons".

I've got nothing to back it up though.

All of the outros are intros to the next album. Its called a meta album. Dream Theater is possibly the first group to create a meta album. The sound of phonograph static at the end of "Finally Free" on Scenes from a Memory is the same sound at the beginning of "The Glass Prison" on their next album, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. And the last chord that fades out at the end of Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence is the same chord that fades in to "As I Am" on the next album, Train of Thought. And the piano note played at the end of "In the Name of God" on Train of Thought is the same piano note that opens "The Root of All Evil" on their next album, Octavarium. I don't know if they did anymore, but yeah, thats about all I know of them doing.

I pretty sure I would of listened. Afterall I love Kevin Moore. So I wouldn't dismiss an album with the Moorester on.

Wow, I can't believe I haven't joined this club already. Petrucci is a god, and I absolutely love Dream Theater. Honestly, if I had to name my favourite band right now it would be them. LTE rocks as well, but I guess that isn't the point of discussion here. I've been listening to Octavarium a lot recently. Actually I have been playing Space Dye Vest over and over as well, even though it depresses the hell out of me. Anyway, I'd be glad to join. I'll see what I can do about posting regularly.

The only flaw is that the 24 minutes doesn't last long enough :(.

I actually think the song is the perfect length :p Caught in a Web is immense. I'm listening through Awake for the second time now. The Big Medley made me smile when Bohemian Rhapsody came on :)

I just prefer songs that are catchy and awesome. No matter the length. Some of the catchiest songs I've heard are long:
And Then There Was Silence - Blind Guardian
The Seven Angels - Avantasia
Black Rose Immortal - Opeth
Blackwater Park - Opeth
A Change of Seasons - No need to name an artist :P.

Length isn't a factor.. its just the enjoyment. Some long songs are too tedious - but so are some short ones..... Symphony X's 'The Oddessy' is pretty boring. And I've not gotten into 'Six Degree's of Inner Turbulence' much.
