Found it. I'm surprised I've never heard it before considering it was on the falling into infinity demos album.

Awesome. It's actually pretty much the same with a few extra/different bits.

Thanks for the link Nev. Just downloaded the song. To be honest - i thought it was kinda.....'meh' compared to some of their masterpieces. That being said it's no where near their worst stuff either.

Song did kinda get better from 5:00 onwards.

Yeah, it wasn't fantastic, but it wasn't bad either. Although, I did listen to A Nightmare to Remember the other day which got leaked and I found it to be much better than A Rite of Passage. Still, I'm looking forward to hearing the whole album as well as finding out which songs they covered.

Having listened to it just now it seems like a very nice, inoffensive song but I can't help feeling that its basically another step in Dream Theater's quest to be a Pop band. Cause that is what it is, its a Pop song with distorted guitars, big drums... it just so happens that this Pop band are probably the most talented ensemble of musicians in mainstream music.

It's verse - chorus - verse - chorus - middle 8 - chorus formula with some technical profiency thrown in and clocking in at 8 minutes. It's not Prog anymore, its just generic music thats been time stretched.

If they make an 11th album I guarantee they'll be going dance routines. Guarantee it!

Saying that Systematic Chaos had some Poppy songs and that was a good album. Although those Pop songs at least had good riffs.

In interviews, Mike Portnoy was basically calling A Rite of Passge "the pop song" on the album, so obviously it's going to seem like Dream Theater is taking a step in the direction of being a pop band with that song.

A Nightmare to Remember (which Mike Portnoy said was also going to be a single) is undeniably "progressive" so the other songs on the album are probably going to be even less in the direction of A Rite of Passage.

First confirmed cover:

Rainbow's Stargazer

I haven't heard the cover yet and will leave it until the album is out. The other confirmed cover is Iron Maiden's To Tame a Land which I've heard already but it means I won't have to get Kerrang's shitty Maiden tribute album in order to get it.

I think the official video was released around the time that user uploaded the video. However, I'm not too bothered with music videos in general. Also, it didn't take people long to get hold of the leaked album. They can have fun listening to the album before the release date but as for me, I shall wait until the album actually comes out and besides, I've already listened to 2 songs already. Anymore than that would be spoiling myself too much.

I agree with this. As its a given that I'm going to buy anything Dream Theater release as my collection has come too far to stop now, I want the first time I listen to the music to be the actual final product and not something with watermarks all over it.

Next confirmed cover:

Queen's Tenement Funster/Flick Of The Wrist/Lily Of The Valley

This is a very interesting and unique choice. When I heard Queen would be one of the covers, I didn't expect it to be the medley from Sheer Heart Attack. However, I'm happy they've chosen this idea and I can't wait to hear it when the album comes out. Again, this is another cover I'll save until the album's actually out.

A Nightmare to Remember. Well, most of it anyway. It was the first leaked track and I couldn't resist to give it a listen to.

So has anybody else listened to the album in its entirety yet? I thought it was quite good. Better than Systematic Chaos but not better than Octavarium.

I can shove 19 memory cards up his ass, So if I get all 32GB ones it will be 608GB which is that many songs. Nah an external HDD can be shoved up there so how many songs can 1 TB hold.

I don't like the Rite of Passage(Single) maybe when the new album drops it will be different and better.

Yep. Seemed just a step-forward of Systematic Chaos. Not that that's a bad thing. One thing I can't figure out, though - The riff played around the beggining of "The Best of Times". Where have I heard that before? It also appears briefly on The Count of Tuscany, if anyone has any clue as to what I'm talking about.

Ignore all the member nonsense. If you like DT just post here. We need more regulars in this club.

Also, i would so pay $125 for this. I think i might do it next year, or next tour or whatever.

I think its a bad lame that they charge you to meet them. Seems really ungrateful to me, that they're too good to meet fans for free outside of the arena.

They were as good as always. I lack enthusiasm for anything after Scenes from a Memory though, that became apparent. Anytime they played older stuff everyone was stationary, anything from ToT/SC got a huge reaction. Fucking noobs :P.

I'll post the set list tomorrow when I'm not tired/have a headache.

Oh and I met James.

So, set list (not necessarily in order, though I'll do my best):

In the Presence of the Enemies, Pt. 1
Beyond This Life
Misunderstood
A Rite of Passage
Hollow Years
Constant Motion
Caught in a Web
Solitary Shell (w/extended instrumental section)
A Mind Beside Itself: I. Erotomania
A Mind Beside Itself: II. Voices
Forsaken
As I Am

-Break-

Encore:
Metropolis Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper (w/extended Instrumental bit)/Learning to Live/A Change of Seasons/A Fortune in Lies medley.

My hightlights of the gig were obviously Erotomania/Voices as they're two of my favourite Dream Theater songs and hearing them live was fantastic :D.
And obviously that final medley couldn't be any more perfect. They played up the end of the instrumental section in Metropolis (so all the best stuff of that song, with a jam between the cool riffs in that song), an instrumental part and a chorus of Learning to Live and then VI. The Inevitable Summer and VII. The Crimson Sunset from A Change of Seasons. The Fortune in Lies bit was just the opening few chords just to end the song.

So that was tits. Another highlight was how charming I felt Mike to be, I've been slagging him off for a while but I found myself falling in love with him again. He was just so playful and always had a smile on his face; you could really tell he loves playing live, and I liked that. He was always looking at band members and smacking his head with his sticks between beats in a playful manner.
He kept dropping his sticks when throwing them up to catch them again too. And he just smiled his way through it :).

James cocked up royally too, during A Rite of Passage. Came in too early, Mike saved him though with a cheeky "That was the video" remark :P.
But besides that they were flawless as per usual, what else can you expect really?

So, after the show me and my mate had to wait around for my mum and it turned out she'd be held up on the motorway, so we went for some food and that and then decided to see if she was parked on the otherside of the arena (as her phone had died). She wasn't, but we saw a few people waiting around to meet the band (which is great cause some people pay for that :P). So we waited around and they all come out one by one and we met James and he signed the shirt I got and my ticket, though my friend refused to get a pic with him cause he wasn't one of the others; cheeky bastard :P.

Whilst we were waiting John (Myung) also came out to put his bag in the bus but he hadn't come out to meet us all by the time my mum arrived so we had to leave. So the plan is to take my shirt when they tour in October and get the rest of the guys signatures on my shirt :).
