Yeah, per ounce. They've also got a lot more fat than say, chicken, and they don't have complete proteins the way chicken or other meats do. Just saying what percentage of the food is protein doesn't tell you anything about how good it is as a source of protein.

If you really want to be healthy and don't care about ethical issues associated with diet, then the way to go is to eat reasonable amounts of lean meats (i.e. lots of chicken and fish, have a steak once every few months, maybe), and eat a lot of vegetables and whole grains.

To me the worst draw back of being a vegitarian would be having orgasmic steaks, roasts, hams, etc. Just too good to give up I guess. But then again I guess I do get enough veggies to be healthy too.

Soy is fucked up.

Theres studies that have shown that it reduces testosterone levels in men and cause tumors in women who had or have best cancer.

Part of the reason is that meat nowadays is overly proccesed and steroyds are used in the beef cows and such

Hmmm?

But isn't that the style anymore? "Starving to be beautful?"

The people that are "starving to be beautiful" are either anorexic or extremely shallow and vain. In either case, it's not to bring attention to starving people in third-world countries.

1. Eating less or no meat is more healthy than the meat-based diet most Americans are raised around.
I pointed that out, as evidence by the extremes taken by those who partook/partake in the Atkins diet and the like.

Refraining from meat=/= Atkins diet extremists. Unlike the Atkins diet, it is not only possible, but simple, to create well-balanced, nutritious, healthy meals without meat.

3. They object to how cattle, pigs, etc. are treated and raised, in what they consider to be inhumane conditions.
Not every farm animal in the world is treated the way PETA would have you believe, man.

I did not say they were. Nor does it necessary follow that vegetarians equate meat-eating to the holocaust, like PETA does.

Vegetarians can get the nutrients they need from animal sources by eating egg or dairy products. Vegetarians need to eat more protein than they may think because their high fiber diets reduce their absorption of protein and plant protein, even that found in beans and nuts, tends to be of rather poor quality.

Vegans typically abstain from all animal products, and are at high risk of malnutrition if they do not monitor their food intake carefully. I've seen (and dated) healthy looking vegetarians, but every vegan I've ever seen looks emaciated and anemic. I think people up here were lumping vegetarians together with vegans, so I thought I'd clear that up for those who didn't know. Both vegetarianism and veganism are healthy lifestyles (when executed with caution), but neither are necessary to maintaining your health.

Humans didn't evolve into nor were meant to be herbivores, we evolved into omnivores so we would be versatile enough to eat many different food sources and thus be more successful in finding food. Being omnivorous makes humans less vulnerable to famine.

You're thinking of vegans. A person can get plenty of protein without meat, but vegans can actually not get enough.

actually i found an article in a local newspaper with all the taboo's of vegitarianism and veganism discussed proving even that going veg is the best way to stay healthy, it isn't good for kids because you'll not have the same nutritions as meat but onceyour past your 25 you can be perfectle capable without meat

I agree soy is horrible I don%u2019t care how you cook it. It will never taste as good as the meat its supposed to replace and its not good for you it dose contain estrogen which is not good for growing (or any) boys (and probably causes breast cancer in girls). The bottom line is you can live semi well on a vegetarian diet but there is no good reason to as I stated all ethical reasons are foolish (see my post above) and its not in any way good for you I don%u2019t care what BS study your hippie friend pulled out of his ass. We evolved as omnivores, fact! Therefore we must eat meat and vegetables not just one or the other. Submit to science fools I command you! Its right evolution is right and any one who doesn%u2019t understand this should get a vasectomy or have there tubes tied. Your stupid genes will destroy us all.

I'd rather be a beefy, unhealthy carnivore than a sissy-ass, healthy vegan.

Vegetarians are healthier than meat-eaters in some aspects, and unhealthier in others. But they're pansies in all aspects, unless they're one of those guys who's like YO MAN I'M TOTALLY DONE WITH BEEF JERKY FROM NOW ON EVEN THOUGH IT'S TOTALLY BITCHIN', and not like those guys who are like OH MY GOOD LOOK AT THAT LOVELY COW I CAN'T EAT COWS BECAUSE THEY'RE SO CUTE AND I LIKE FRENCH PEOPLE TOO.

People that old are usually wise enough to know meat is good, vegitables are a meat companion not a food in themselves.
