But children born to older parents live longer. There was a test a few years back using fruit flies and not letting them mate, basically they laid eggs they wiped em away the first two or three times, eventually(about 16 generations of flies) the lifespan was double the control group.

But that's fruit flies. I've worked in the largest fruit-fly lab in the country (University of Arizona stock center and Dr. Teri Marcow's lab). There's quite a bit of difference between human and fly reproduction. For example, in humans, you're much more likely to have a kid with down syndrome or other birth defects if you have a kid in your 40's.

But that aside, that's fucked up about a pregnant 12-year old. That's just fucked up on so many levels.

Those laws vary considerably state-to-state. In some places, if the age differnce is less than a few years (like an 18-year-old with a -16-year-old), it's not considered illegal, but it varies considerably.

Sorry to rant, but the "weak coverage" of real issues (Ie "I think the president was trying to convince us that..." versus "I have evidence that the president lied about...") kind of brought this out in me. It's light news and the media has made it into a hot button issue. And the more we hear, the less we care.
