For those of you who aren't aware of it, there's a public beta version of Flash Player 9 available. Please only post here, if you have already had experience with the beta plugin (not whether you will try it, don't intend to, or whatever).

If you want to test the beta version, you have to uninstall your current flash plugin and then install the beta version (the uninstaller and the installer for the new plugin can both be found from the link above).

Keep in mind that if you DO install the beta plugin, flash submissions which would otherwise have worked fine in previous plugin versions, might appear to be buggy. In these cases (if you're using the beta plugin), please report problems in this thread (link to the flash entries that have caused problems, please). That way, we can report back to Adobe with your findings.

I might test it out. But if there's bugs then I'll wait for the full version.

meh i'm going to wait. From what I've heard AS3 uses x and y instead of _x and _y and a lot of my games used x and y for relative coordinates to be mapped to 2D coordinates later.

I heard that 3D frogger glitched up with the beta (probably cause i used x,y,z to hold the 3D coords).

it's actually 8.5. They didnt update actionscript very much in flash 8 but they updated graphics. The new version completely reworks the language.

Guys, don't download it.

It causes a bug in Firefox, where if you have a flash movie open and then vote at the same time, all sound stops in your NG flash movie until you reload the page.

Cool. But I'll wait until it's complete. So I won't have to deal with possible bugs.

no not really. Adobe is staggering releases of flash. The new PLAYER will come out soonish (been in beta form for months) but the aqctual authoring tool wont be out untill after the player is out. So no worries. The player comes out but you cant make stuff for it yet. lol

I think it's good that way, doing that lets them work out a lot of the kinks for the previous versions whilst enhancing playback, makes things kinda exciting.

So far, from my perspective. Everything seems to run a bit faster, the grpahics look more clear to me. I'm going to test it even more, but so far, it's awesome. BTW, when is Flash 9 coming out? I can't wait to try it.

I downloaded it almost a week back and viewed over 750 flash's probably since and haven't really had a problem. A couple instances for a couple flash's it crashed all of IE. And when clicking outside the flash window, most of the time cuts off the bg sound and you cant get it back unless you restart the flash but its not really that much of a problem. Overall it's just fine.

ill stick with the current version, i never cared for betas, but its amazing how fast flash 9 came out. flash 8 came out less than a year ago. i dont know the gap between flash 7 and 8, but it was longer than a year.

So wait. I dont have flash anymore cuz my trial ran out, and I dont want to pay the ripoff price $700 for the full version. So, I can get a free trial of this? Even if I got the free trial of flash 8 b4?

This is the Flash PLAYER beta, not the Flash program itself.

But yeah, when Flash 9 comes out, you should be able to get another 30 days.

Flash 8 came out in September of last year.

You people are mixing up Flash 9 and Flash PLAYER 9. Flash 9 is the program that will come out eventually that MAKES flash movies and games. Flash PLAYER 9 is the "program" that allows for Flash movies and games to be viewed on the web.

if it weren't for testers like me...you all would be waiting forever...but I think I will let Adobe know of any findings on my own...

Meh, I'm not the biggest fan of beta version programs. I'll stick with version 8 until the full version of 9 comes out. :)
