I'm been screwing around with flash for about 4 months now and i love drawing and i can draw alot better with a pen and pencil than with a mouse and money is no prob i thinking of buying the 330$ walcom 6x8 tablet with pen 5 button mouse and photoshop elements 3( i dont have a version of photoshop currently(WHAT A NEWB)). So if you have one do you think it dramtically wade flash easier to do because i love drawing and I really dont make that many flash movies but flash pics and post them on sheezy. So my point if you have one would you recommend me buying one?

Well, i personally dont have one because i dont like wasting money, like just incase i bought it and it was a shitty quality version.

I think you'll find if you just keep using your mouse you'll improve fine, i did and i'm good at drawing on paper anyway. If you are really finding it hard go for it but dont just go straight out and blow your money on one you find, take a look online and do a few google searches to see which is the best

You spelt 'Tosser' wrong in your name, btw.

well, it all depends on what kind of style you're after. if you want your animation to look sketchy, then by all means get one, but don't limit your style on what you already know. using a mouse and vector drawing can be good too.

look at my sig, for example...not saying i'm great, but it's just a bunch of vectors manipulated with a mouse, and i think it looks pretty good (idunno)

i would suggest that you get a wacom. definitely, if money's not a problem and if you like drawing.

also, check out microsoft expression graphics designer. it beats photoshop in tablet versatality.... and it also has vectorized and infinitely-un-do-able effects (like drop shadow or gaussian blur, for example). it's on free trial right now.

click here to see some examples of a work i'm doing 100% via a wacom intuos2 12x12

what i love about drawing on my wacom is that cntl-z doesn't exist in real-life-on-paper... in other words, i'm not that good on paper... my hands are shaky and i don't always draw the lines i want (often i end up ripping the paper up due to too much erasing)

ah... and i'm considering selling my 3-year old wacom intuos 2 12x12 for $350 and buying an intuos 3 6x8 instead. the 12x12 is huge, like an art easel, and i'm moving to a place with limited space. email me if you're interested.

yeah it does depend on your style, i got one because im really good at drawing so i decided to get one for flash and it cuts down the time it takes to draw a template for a character and fbf animation...so if you want you should get it and i think they're worth the cost because it cuts down the time to draw on flash...

this is probably just personal preference, but i seriously like black-outlines that are not uniform in width... like the natural sort of thing you can achieve with a wacom pen. i think it adds an extra degree of expressiveness to things.

No, you shouldn't waste money on stuff that you don't need.

Meh. I disagree. I don't think it's a "waste" of money. There are much worse things to spend money on, if you think of it as something that will be fun then it's worth it. If you can't draw for crap it won't make you magically better. Think of it like an artistic medium. Some people are fine with pencils, while others like charcoal or whatever.

What I did was first I bought a graphire wacom ($100.) It was pretty cheap, I didn't have to save up for long. Recently I upgraded to a big ass 9x12. I would recommend starting at the cheapest and upgrading if you feel the need too.

I could never get the hang of the mouse, even after 7-8 months of trying. I guess some people can but I like the feel of a tablet better. It's you're money but I would recommend going for it. :)

I would suggest hitting up e-bay... I got a 8x5 intous for $90... it's old, but works like a champ and has really unleashed some new abilities as far as animating goes.

tablets are pretty pricey, but they are very helpful! you get more control over things, like pen pressure, so you can adjust the thickness of your lines by pressing harder, you can also make the alpha go with the pen pressure, it's pretty cool. and a wacom is deffinetly the way to go, as they are the best tablets out there in the market. you are looking to buy a pretty big one, i have a 4x5 and that's big enough to keep me quite happy, but some people dont have as much precision in their wrists to handle it :P

luckily my tablet was a christmas present, but it still brings me great joy :D

I'm also thinking of buying one, but also, some mouses are built for drawing, so you may want to look out for them as well.

See that really is why i want one it takes me like 3mins to draw one of my fav. chacs with a mouse and i want to make a flash with him but with a pen i can get the outline done in like 20secs... and for the guy who said dont waste your money i spend so much on pens and paper and color pencils i usally have to buy a new 12 pack of pens every 3 weeks i draw that much and i hate coloring with color pencils...

Up to you, if you like drawing where to some extent you may be blind (as in you'd have to learn how to draw on screen and at the same time you'd have to know where to land your mouse because the mouse pointer doesn't follow your pen because it needs pressure to do that) then go ahead...

You dissapoint me...
Nah, just an opinion, I don't hate you. :3

If you're serious about Flash, then a tablet is a must.
