Remix or Mix? 2006-05-19 19:07:05

Ok i was bored one day so i decided to mess around with a pre made track..but when I was done with it, it sounded really good. So it comes to my question.

when you take away a few instruments, add one or 2 new ones, and delete the original and then make your own new pattern, would it be a Remix or a Mix...or is there no difference?

I think that it is a remix because you added something that you made as opposed to a mix where you would only have to rearrange the way the song's patterns are layed out.

I think this is it, correct me if i'm wrong.

mix - combining something with the original without making it sound terrible
remix- changing things such as tempo instruments but keeping the same...beat etc.

Hey I got a question to add on to this... say you make a melodie from your head and you later find it already used in a song? I did this with a couple I never posted cause they were such simple nice melodies I would imagine that have been used already.

happens ALL the time. What you do really depends how well known the melody is. Theres nothing saying you can't submit it, but then again you might get loads of comments saying that it sounds the same to whatever the melody is in.

When it doubt, write it, then mash it up and detune it.
