Alright kids, a friend of mine is having problems with flash movies playing sound in his browsers (IE and Firefox) it's completely mute, the same for google video and youtube (as they also seem to be flash based) Well I couldn't help him but I'm sure someone on here is in the know. We've tried reinstalling both firefox and flash, but still no joy.

Are his speakers on and not muted?

Are you sure he has speakers? And are you sure they work?

I've never heard of this problem before. Try the audio forum aswell.

Oh yeah, and eat my piss.

stupid answer: speakers/sound on?

slightly clever answer: sound card error or maybe a flash error, uninstalling and reinstalling usually would fix the latter though... hmm..

restart pc? adobe/macormedia help site?

I had the same thing. Click the little speaker in the taskbar and make sure it is turned all the way up and that mute isn't ticked.

Also, reinstal flashplayer? Has it just suddenly happened? Maybe it's a virus or something.

Nah, Macs suck something chronic...BUT I didn't have to set it there. Click the lil blue button and it kinda just appears on a wider bar...and another suggestion is maybe just plug the speakers in again...and blow the socket! It always worked for the megadrive cartridges :D

Just because he's good at animating doesn't mean his buddies are.

Ok more info: He's using a PC with windows XP. Sound works fine in everything else but won't work in any flash. The latest version of flash and firefox are both running. Restarting didn't do anything and of course the damn speakers are on!

It must be something to do with flash player then. Does he have flash player 8? Even if he does, get him to uninstall it and then reinstal it. Maybe it didn't instal properly the first time.

when you say restarted did you mean just flash or the computer? Restarting the computer sometimes does it for me, becuse I've had it a few times...but yea, restart the computer, not just Flash. And maybe leave it off for like a an hour...I know it sounds retarded but that has seriously worked for me sometimes.

hmm, < i dont't use firefox> i asume you ment by:

Sound works fine in everything else but won't work in any flash.

that even opening a .swf end up with no sound...

quite an interesting error we have... i asume you've also been tot eh help site and tried there , to no avail.

uninstalling flash and then reinstalling it ( after a reset) is the only thing i can think of that can help...

sorry!

Wait, is it that sound doesn't work with flashes he makes? Or that he can't hear anything from any flash?

this advice may be useful:

since you say its the same for google & youtube.... i dont think this is a flash thing... this is a either fucked up computer or fucked up speaker thing OR soundcard

1) i'd suggest trying ur speakers on another computer, to really see if its them 1st though... because itd be easier than replaceing a damn card

2) fucked up soundcard. maybe his soundcard inside the computer is screwed up. misplaced a bit, or broken.

and salad fingers is my hero. i even have the lime green shirt. its quality is genuine.
thats why iv'e bother with this to be honest
